Does Your A/C Do This?

OK, it maybe in the manual but I don't have it handy.

I've never noticed this because the weather has never been as cold here before but recently I've had to turn up the temperature of my AC higher than normal (to 70F+), running on "ECO" (i.e. no AC) and on "Auto" mode. I noticed with a warmer setting, the air flow from the center outlets was greatly reduced (almost none) and the ones on the side became much stronger. At first I thought "WTF, not another computer problem again???!!!" but when I pressed the AC button, and set a lower temp, the air started streaming thru the center vents again and the ones on the sides became much weaker (which was a problem I've experienced in summer ever since I got my car.....). Can anyone confirm whether this is normal, perhaps a feature of the "auto" mode? Many thanx.

No Heat Out of Center Vents

Regardless of the register settings, the center vents only deliver air in the air conditioning mode. They will not open in Heat mode.

When the car starts to warm up.. no hot air from center outlets.
When the car has warmed up.. the airflow begins from the center..

Thanks guys, that's comforting to know.

It is however, baffling as to why it does that, maybe its something to do with MB seeng the need to defrost the windows first whilst the passengers freeze to death (or the way hot air flows vs cold air?)

Granted the STS is a beautiful looking car, it doesn't make sense to change just because one can't figure out how to live with a bizarre A/C design In any case, it is still relatively new and maybe not all the bugs have emerged yet....might have to give it a couple of years but then again, I'll probably opt for a CLS or S maybe if I were ever to go down that route

Hey, wassup Jimmyboy? I'm guessing its a feature to help defrost the windows first but one would think surely not at the temps I'm using....
