Polishing your E320

Has Anyone bought that kit for 100 bucks that Merceds sells?..

I have several little scratches on my car, would this do the trick? Main scratches are from former owner (Doctor, idiot) who put the car thru car washes.

Thanks SCott

I would personally avoid any real expensive DIY kits to remove serious scratches. For the same $$ (or even less!), you can enjoy your Starbucks' latte or whatever while a professional detailer does the repairs with products that are at least as good as those in the kit and experience that wasn't included for the 100 bucks.

As a detailer I agree... your finish is worth much more that any money saved on the kit. The only way to remove scratches is to remove paint, and you only have so much paint to work with.....

If your are interested in DIY detailing, check out www.griotsgarage.com . I have had great results on my two black MBs. A good wax will greatly minimize the appearance of light scratches and swirl marks. Deep scratches are probably best left alone (unless into primer or metal), better to keep the paint thickness. If you do not enjoy detailing, then pay for it. It can become a fairly labor intensive process. Best advice is to stay out of automatic car washes and do only hand washes with the proper equipement. That will extend trips to the detailer.

If you call the former owner who scratched it an idiot then what do you call the person who bought it?

Oh my ,,seriously tho, the job isnt that tuff.If the scratch isnt beyond paint it can be random orbital buffed out using specific polish for German paint. When you also add in something like Langka when you first see the scratch, then buff and polish it,it almost disappears.Ive done it and its a good stop gap approach.

What color is the car? If it is Black and your going to buff it you had better be real good with a buffer. I buffed cars for 2 years before I was able to walk a swirl off a black car. If the car is badly scratched and it is a common color and you wash and wax it weekly there are other cheaper options.

Note: There is no replacing a good detailer.

To quote you above,

NEVER PUT YOUR BELOVED CAR NO MATTER THE MAKE thru a generic car wash so it can scratch your paint into a thousand swirls meathead.

when i get my car detailed, it didn't get rid of scratches. The biggest problem that i get is the little pebbles that i hit when traveleing on the highway. My hood, if looked at closley, has these little specks or dots which are chipped off paint. It is soo annoying. I went to a shop and he wanted to repaint my whole hood. It puzzled me to spend so much money because this would happen every year.

Hood chip options

Although probably not the most attractive solution to the rock chips on yur hood is to use a custom black vinyl bra like this: Colgan Bra #PR1066
or a clear bra

Click on the installation stills/movies to see some installed on MBZ vehicles.

Repainting would be the final answer, but if it is already chipped badly, covering them up with a bra of any type is only a band-aid.

Check out this write-up.
Clear bra install
