Asuming your's are replicas, they MAY fit without a mod. Try mounting the center ones (these are the only ones that need modding) inside the recess in the panel first, if they sit flat with the panel, you won't need to trim it down.

Are those replicas or OEM? (OEMs will have a tiny MB star logo on the red suface of the lense (somewhere)). Anyway, sounds like they were "meant to" fit since the original ones are quite a way off - not close. Anyway, shaving should do it...but if not OEM, I'd suggest double checking where the lights need shaving first as they may not be the same place as the OEM ones.

when i checked the only place that didnt seem to fit perfect was the place you outlined, im pretty sure their replica, but it wasnt very far off, maybe i should try and give it a little bit more of a shove. the real reason im asking is what bit to use for my dremel, a cutting circular bit, a grinding bit, etc.

I don't if you received your answer or not but I just used one of the small, pointy, metal grinding/sanding bits on my Dremel and sanding that entire area down until the lights fit flush. You may have to go down quite a bit but try not to break through too much of the plastic as it is reflective on the inside and may be a little dark when you look at it when mounted. Good luck!

alright got it all finished, it looks so much better with these lights, the only thing is that im getting a "lamp defective" error message, but both brake lights work, both turn signals work and the fog light works. anyone out there have a suggestion of what to check?

1. Two little bulb on top of license plate.
2. Reverse light
3. Third brake light
4. Rear driving light (turn on/off along w/ your headlight)

Make sure you plugged everything in on the inner lights and the bulb is on tight with contact. I made the same mistake. Hope this helps.

so i took them over to my local mercedes specialist and he finds that the reason the outter (brake lights) dont work is because the metal board are warped on the lights, what a ****ing hassle, now i have to drive back out to west la, next week, cause they dont have any in right now, and get a new set out outter lights.

it will probably look stupid but im going to run the centers with the original outter tails

I have a set of 2001 outter light. in pretty much new condition. If you're interested, we can work out a deal.

Prefer SoCal local pick-up, it's PITA to ship these things

Not worth it...it would look really crap having two different sets and you will never mod the clear ones to match exactly, in the end, you'll end up buying some proper ones....but that's JMHO of course
