HID BAN In CALIFORNIA?
I keep hearing of a HID BAN in California or the "bright headlight ban, i guess it distracts drivers on the road because of how bright it is
is this old news or is this for real?

I suppose the DMV could be considering a regulation concerning HID lights, but that's harder to search for. Where do you keep hearing about a HID ban?

HIDs that are not DOT-approved are illegal for use on-road. That's always been the case, no need for extra legislation, especially at the state level. One of the problems with the California government is they like to make laws that are already dealt with at the Federal level. What huge waste of time and taxpayer money. If the weather here weren't so good I would so move from here.

Banning HIDs would be a very big waste of taxpayer money and a huge anchor on an already overwhelmed enforcing agency, not to mention the negative impact on the DMV, and local & state government.
It would be a better plan to ban speed rated tires, since we never get to go that fast in congested traffic. Then maybe performance seats, as uncomfortable drivers will generally not fall asleep at the wheel. Might as well drop the speedo back to say 85 (or less) again, and why not just mandate a governor on every vehicle that shuts down at 72MPH?
I swear, if I wasn't living the life here in Los Angeles, I too would move somewhere else (only to discover the negatives of another place no doubt!)

You ideas can harm automotive business to much. Why will people buy luxury or sport cars if everything is limited? It will increase number of jobless engineers and put economy down. It will also create black market making money on hacking limiters.

If they really ban it, then they would have to force all exisiting cars that came factory equipped HID, which wouldn't be good for the consumer and the auto manufacturer. I think they probably talking about Not approved DOT HID which you see a lot of people modify to get the HID which is illegal in some cases.
