Odd brake message

Last night my wife got into our E320 and saw an odd brake message. Something about the brakes and decreased effectiveness in red and "Start Engine". I heard the SBC pump start and stay on for about 15 seconds when she opened the door. That is a lot longer than I have heard it in the past. The message went away when she followed the instructions and turned the key. I wasn't quick enough to stop her and write down the entire message. No other messages and the brakes felt fine to her. Any one else see this?

As marc777 mentioned, the battery control module may need to be reset – usually associated with deep battery discharging or jump starting a communication fault may occur (red colored fault message).

P-B-54.21/125 DEC04 – Message in instrument cluster “Battery/alternator stop vehicle” and/or “Brake defective stop vehicle”

This happened to me when my battery discharged itself for no reason at all.

If this is what happened, after the car is restarted, it should have a message states that certain feature has been temporary disabled.

After driving around for about 20 minutes, and battery charge level is up to acceptable level, everything returned to normal.
