Trim question

I have just found a piece of chrome trim in the driver's footwell.

It is about an inch long and very narrow with rounded ends.

It looks exactly like a miniature version of the chrome trim that appears on the storage compartment where the cupholders would go and also the piece on the ashtray lid.

It is quite small, and has four 'legs' which used to attach it to something, but what? I can't see anything obviously missing.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

I was used to this with Jaguars, but I knew where the bits went. I understand that French cars (except Peugots) are also notorious for gradually filling the footwells with bits of the dash.

Yes it is!!!

What a great thing this forum is.

It's a lot easier to see where it should go once you know!

Thanks very much,
John

Without that little bit of chrome, in a car without a changer (mine), someone unfamiliar with the car would never, ever, know that there was a hiding spot there ... Hmmm. The search dog would probably still alert on it, though.

Do you realize what you’ve done here? You just jumped ahead of; oh lets say at least a dozen or so service departments in solving this problem without giving a song and dance, requiring multiple visits, and at no cost! On behalf of the forum, thanks.

Good thing that was resolved. One more service call may have knocked us to the bottom of the quality survey totem pole!

All joking aside, we’re walking on friggin’ eggs here. MB should drop a budget and hire a few talented spin doctors!

This is a great forum- It has saved me thousands on my purchace, made the car more enjoyable and helped in keeping it in better shape. People like Harley and many others just add to it daily.

I didn't know that it was there even on the cars without CD Changer. Is the door still mechanical on those? Or does it just open and close (i.e. w/out a motor)?

It's motorized - and it operates with or without the "key" in the ignition. The motor drive is really overkill, considering how small the storage space is, but it's still very cool.

I agree about the overkill, but I really think its cool for the in-dash CD Changer!!
Unfortunately, I guess its another part that will eventually fail and have us *****ing about Quality.

Funny how all these added features are what we whine about, but they are the same reasons why our cars stand out from the crowd (you listening Mr. Nissan?)
