4MATIC reliability

My mom has a '89 300SE and it's getting to expensive to repair. She is considering the E320 4MATIC but I am wondering about the reliability. My dad has an '03 S430 sport and has to get it repaired a number of times. Also, how is the gas mileage on the 4MATIC versus non? Since my dad's car sucks in the snow, he would use her car on snowy days, thus the need for 4MATIC. Thanks.

Very satisfied with the 4matic. great traction in snow. standard tires. Performance is terrific and I'm never aware of all wheel drive. gas mileage has been averaging 17+, but that's on the 500 engine. Your mileage should be better. good luck

2005 E320 4Matic
Hi - I bought my 2005 E320 4Matic in November 2004 and I have been quite happy to date. The main use of the vehicle is driving to (and back from) work everyday and ocassional weekend rides to Chicago. Although we did not have much snow in Iowa during this winter, 4Matic so for is a great car to drive with excellent overall control. The loss of space in the passenger side is not a big deal for me. Sorry, I don't keep track of the "mileage per gallon" metric, since gas is cheaper in this country than that in Europe or Japan.

Probably a good suggestion if she is 5'6" or shorter. The Accrua RL is same size as TL so the only differnce is 4 wheel drive and slightly better performance. Fits only one set of clubs in trunk!

2004 E500 4MATIC
I have an E500 4MATIC that is almost one year old. Have had some minor issues (all resolved), but none pertaining to the 4MATIC. Average about 18/23 mpg. I don't think I'll ever own another car that isn't AWD; for me, the safety and performance benefits far outweigh the marginal expense that AWD vehicles add in gasoline costs.
