E320, how to tell if it has Sport package?
Hello guys, first I just wanted to say EXCELLENT FORUM!!!!
Anyways, I'm looking to purchase an 03' E320 white/beige with 34k miles.
Here are pics:
Does it have the Sport Package? Correct me if I'm wrong, the Sport package consist of 17" wheels? Anyways, if it doesn't have airmatic, is the only way to lower it is with springs? Also, do they have any type of aftermarket xenons I can purchase for this car? Any problems with this particular model that I should be aware of? Thanks a bunch guys!!!!!! Alex

The sport pkg has 17" single 5 spoke rims (like the ones in my sig) not twin spoke design like shown in your pics... The sport pkg also includes black birdseye maple wood trim and white instrument guages...
Personaly I would look for an 04 or later as MB seemed to have ironed out a few gremlins known to be lerking in the 03's.... Not saying all 03's had bugs, but a few here will agree some had their fair share...
Good luck with your search....

^^^^ I have to agree with Mr. HOAH. My '03 has had plenty of little irritating things go wrong. ![Frown](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
If you don't mind - how much are you going to pay for the '03? I am waiting to see what my leasing company will sell the car outright to me for ('03 ~30K miles) w/ leather, HK, heated seats, sunroof non-sport package

Could you list me some problems that you had with your E320? I would greatly appreciate it. The dealer is asking $39k for it but I'm hoping to pay about $36.5 for it. Does your Non-sport model have xenons?

No bi-xenons.
I think they should be standard on a 50K+ car!!!
Let's see:
In the shop three times for various audio / audio gateway problems.
Sunroof auto-close stopped working.
Wipers were super-noisy and chattered like crazy.
Brake recall (along with some really lame brake feel with SBS)
Now my passenger rear window doesn't want to close fully.
I've had the MFD flash all kinds of warnings from "WARNING - BRAKE FAILURE" three times to "SRS FAILURE" a couple of times and a few other warnings I can't remember.
Lurching at very low speeds.
Very hard upshifts (feels like someone kicking your seat from behind very hard) on steep, slow downhill operation when the car is cold.
Goofy transmission issue - the car rolls back on hills when placed in "D" I almost rolled into a pole the first time I backed out of my driveway
Headlight burned out after 14 months (dealer replaced it n/c )
Give me a few more days and I'll remember a couple of other things...

All fixed under warranty. Haven't had to spend a dime on repairs.
Overall - I think the W211 is a great highway cruiser. Best car I've ever had for long distance travel. It feels good at speed.
I don't really enjoy the car that much around town. Don't care for the the brake pedal feel or the steering. Hate the tranny - it thinks it is smarter than the driver.
The E320 has adequate power for what the car is. Pickup at stoplights is pretty good. The E500 is certainly much better. The E320 runs out of top end power pretty quickly though.
Contrary to what some believe - it ain't a sports car (even though some guy posted here that he was successful at drifting the car)
I didn't want to call him a straight up liar but I still have my doubts.
I know a little bit about performance driving (my S2000 and I won the WWSCC Championship in Improved A auto-x in '04)
If you want a more focused sports sedan - the 5 series or 3 series would be a better choice (even though the new 5 is ugly as sin IMO)
Pretty good gas mileage - in roughly 30,000 miles the computer tells me it has averaged ~20mpg
All in all - I have mixed feelings about the car. Love some aspects of it. Really disliked a few others.
I still enjoy the looks of the car - I parked next to a CLS500 the other day and thought the W211 looked better

Cool, I appreciate your response in helping me find my E. Its actually going to be for my girlfriend that's scared to get an E500 because of the rediculous gas prices these days. Do you think if I were to lower it via H&R springs, would it affect warranty?

I think the E500 owners are getting pretty decent gas mileage. IIRC all E500s are Airmatic.
Can't answer the warranty issue question since it really depends on the relationship with your dealer. It *shouldn't* void your warranty - but you never know.

Haven't had any problems on my 9/02 production '03 except for a audio software problem that was fixed by a software patch, and noisy wipers that were fixed by replacement, both under warranty. Still, I wouldn't buy that car in your pictures unless and until the dealer removes that ad badge or whatever it is to the left of the rear license, without leaving a trace. I don't know why people in other states put up with dealer stickers and badges on their cars - it's unheard-of in California.
