Pricing Help Wanted - Please

OK, I realize this is a bit of a touchy subject, but I'd appreciate your help.

I have a deposit down on an '06 E350 4Matic that I'm planning to pick up over Memorial Day weekend at the factory in Germany. I currently have a '99 CLK 320 Cabriolet and, wanting to take advantage of the April convertible market, put a listing online for around $2K more than I ever thought I could get.

Long story short - it appears to have sold. The effective result is that I will have to rent a car for around 8 weeks until my yet-to-be-purchased euro delivery makes it back to this side of the pond (which will likely be the last week in June).

That said, I'm thinking about changing my tune and trying to deal on either an 06E350 4Matic or an 05E500 off of the lot (as opposed to the Euro delivery). While I really want to pick it up in Germany, it's hard to rationalize spending at least $1,000 to rent a crap-mobile for two months.

The question is whether the current pricing environment should realistically allow me to get 7% off or more for an in-stock car. If so, am I more likely to have bargaining power on the 05E500 or the 06E350.

If you're uncomfortable discussing this on the boards, a PM would be very appreciated or e-mail to bill@speedingtix.com

Thanks

A similar thing happened to a friend of mine last summer. He went to a few used car lots and found a tolerable "crap mobile" which he purchased for $1500, drove it for about eight weeks, then sold it for $1400 when his "real" car was ready.

As long as you pick something that can withstand whatever mileage you'll put on it within that timeframe without dying on you, you can get through it with almost no net loss. Assuming you can put up with a crap mobile for a bit, of course.

I know it isn't exactly an answer to the question you ultimately asked, but I figured I'd throw it out there.

I guess that's a good point, although a pain in the butt. I could buy a crap-mobile and then try to sell it, but it seems like a potential headache.

You should definitely be able to get more than a 7% discount off sticker price on an E500. Not too sure about the 06 E350s though since they are a newer car. I got my 05 E500 about 3 weeks ago and got an amazing deal. Sticker was about 64k. I walked out paying 53,392 before tax and license. Almost 11k off.

Wow - great bit of info. I would gleefully pay that for an E500. Thanks
