3. The newer US DVD slot I thought could play Mp3's but unlike all European COMAND's could not play DVD films!!!

4. The upgrade CD that we in Europe needed for 'older' DVD COMAND's to play Mp3's was not compatible with the CD player in US systems.

5. What has changed and where have I gone wrong?

Thanks for any advice that might straighten out my confused noggin'

All this is very confusing but I do know for sure that my 04 E320 built in January 04 and delivered in the US in Feb 04 (with NAV) would not play mp3's off of either a DVD or a CD in the single slot in the head unit when it was delivered, but now, after the software update, recognizes and plays a DVD with MP3s. I have not tried playing video DVD as I have no interest in killing myself. My 05 E500 delivered August 04 would play DVDs with MP3s from day one. For people with 04's, therefore, it seems a no brainer to ask the dealer to install the software update.

But I said I was confused first...... So there

I am not being cheeky towards you, your post is merely adding fuel to my confusion.

Take care and I am pleased that everything has worked out well.

I just received the dvd disc that karl sent me. Thanks Karl! Anyways, popped the disc in and got a cd error. So my conclusion: I have the cd rom drive not dvd drive. That is why I am getting euro command this weekend.

One of these days I am going to pop mine open and see about replacing the CD drive with a DVD drive.

Ok I think I read through this whole thread and didn't see one mention of an 06 E 350 dvd reader. So I tried to eject the navigation DVD-Rom from the [stock] cd player (not cd changer) and put in my own dvd-rom filled with mp3s. It just didn't do anything. Didn't load, no mention of any disc inserted. What am I supposed to do?

I cannot understand what you are trying to do.

****! tried to eject the navigation DVD-Rom from the [stock] cd player (not cd changer) and put in my own dvd-rom filled with mp3s.******

The Navigation DVD will not play in a 'normal' DVD player, and will certainly NOT work in a CD player?? Somehow though I don't think you are asking this??? A DVD ROM is surely a specialist piece of equipment?

Leave the Navigation DVD alone, it has a dedicated unit which should be in the boot.

John

Ok I posted that around 5am, I think. So let me try again. I have a stock cd player and a 6 cd changer in my 2006 E 350. From reading this thread, I assumed I can play mp3 music off of my DVD-R. So I inserted it into my cd player and it didn't load anything just gave me a disc read error. I tried it with the 6 cd changer and still no-go. Can the 2006 e 350 play mp3s off of a dvd-rom (dvd-r) ?

Unfortunately everything has suddenly started to contradict itself. Steph28 has found the proverbial fly in the ointment.

For ALL European 211's the answer has ALWAYS been straight forward. If the car has COMAND with the DVD navigation it will play both DVD video's and Mp3's. No different year of manufacture, it wil play Mp3's and DVD video. My own vehicle is a January 04 build and needed the dealer to carry out a ten minute software upgrade, but newer vehicles will even play Mp3's directly from the Multi-CD player. I would simply have to buy a new CD changer to have this option.

I am totally confused abot what is happening in the US, sorry.

Regards,
John

I just got my euro command from Steve today. Thanks Steve! The euro command kicks ***. It is so many features my US command didnt have. So if you want to solve all your problems, email Steve and get yourself a euro command and be happy.

Do you have RDS, a clock, and DVD in motion?

I have a "replacement" 03 with Comand DVD NAV.. and currently have "In motion DVD" enabled.. but can't get the in dash slot CD to read mp3 discs.. Will I be able to update the system to play mp3's... and NOT lose the DVD? Or is it one or the other?

Thanks
Pete

and for MP3:
as far as we know - all US spec comands can be updated (by the dealership) with original mercedes software (less then 10USD per update disc which can be used for many cars) to become MP3 compatible...regardless wether it concerns a 2003 replacement, a 2004 or 2005 comand.

Just don't bother or change it. Get yourself a 6 disc changer with MP3 and you will have it all.

NitroShredder,

You should have both.

Did you use the "5,3-7" trick to change the COMMAND to ECE? If not, try that, if you have DVD capabilities you should also have MP3; otherwise ask the dealer for a software update.
