Radio question on E55
Hello:
I am driving myself crazy trying to figure out why I when I am trying to change the radio stations via the steering wheel controls it only does it manually and does not do the presets. I remember in my 00 E430 4matic there was a menu where you could do this but I have found nothing. Help!!

The last time this came up in a thread (it comes up from time to time) somebody passed on the possibility that M-B was working on a software patch to allow selection of presets. Nice if it happens, but I don't expect it any time soon. The inability to select presets is on my "what were they thinking?" list, along with the carpeted door sills and the unlit light switch. It's a short list, actually, since the car is generally well thought-out.

I like it this way, you have the buttons on the right for the stations, or hit preset and then just next or go through them all and find something you like on some weird station.
(Or just forget about AM and FM, which are on their way out anyways..)

One of those seriously annoying yet simple to fix things.. I sit with the seat all the way back cause I'm tall, so its a reach to the COMAND to change stations. Lame.
From what I understand, its a pretty complicated mess, and probably wont get fixed. Hardware problems I think? Incompatibility of some sort. Leave it to MB to make the simplest operations 100 times more comlicated..
Thank you, Audio Gateway.. the gate that never opens.

Well that just sucks. A 90K car and no way to chyange the radio presets from the steering wheel.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, the same annoyance was present in my Cayenne. It drives me crazy too. I thought Porsche was alone on that one, I guess it is a German thing (except for BMW.)

The old E class (W210) allowed the option of picking whether or not you wanted to use Presets or search for a radio station. I wonder why mercedes chose not to implement this simple yet effective and crucial feature into such a great car.
