I'm not sure if you looked at prior posts, but is it the brake system pump recharging? Sometimes when you open the door prior to starting, sometimes as you stop, sometimes randomly. It maintains fluid pressure on the electrohydraulic brakes. Entirely normal.

hi jim
i notice the rumbling noise when i open the door after the car had "gone to sleep" and i feel it on the pedal when the car is first started in the morning.
this is different but does sound like a hydrolic type noise...i am sure you right.
thanks
frank

Sounds familiar. I think it is common on the E.

Nothing to worry about, its just the SBC Brake system charging itself up. And when you shut down the car its just the SBC system shutting down along with all the other electrical gizmos in the car.
