Source? Are you sure it's not a truck engine? It does not make sense for them to introduce another inline 6 when they already introduced a V-6. Most probably the V-6 and the V-8 share common tooling which would further negate any new car based I-6.

Then again, stranger things have happened...

The new V6 engine is 224hp. You may be thinking about the V8 diesel which is 314hp.

You'll find an extensive discussion here

Please post the link, btw 369 ft/lb torque is the spec for the current E320 CDI for sale in the US. Wouldn't the engine you reference be somewhat more?

Actually 369 ft/lb is the exact CDI torque and 376 hp is the exact amount of horsepower for the C 55 AMG boasts a 5.5 liter engine.

Also.....

I am not an expert but for a diesel to have about the same in horsepower and torque, it has to rev pretty high for a diesel. Usually if you turbo a diesel, the torque rises faster then the horsepower. By Mercedes current conventional design, an inline 6 would have to displace about 5 liters to develop 376 hp and produce about 550 ft/lb of torque. Yup, a monster that I would love to have under my hood.

A quick internet search produced nothing. Anyway, in time we will know more about this.

You might indeed have seen it, you might indeed have read it, but I simply do not believe it.

When the 320CDI was first imported into the US, JD Power gave an in depth review and really praised the power of the V6 engine. If we are to believe that then clearly the 'old' V6 is being replaced by the 'new' in line 6 cylinder engine?

Sorry to disagree and I for one would appreciate any further details you might find on the new engine.

Take care,
John
