Navigation Volume is low!

The navigation volume is very low where I can barely hear the woman's voice. I tried two selections, one where it is the maximum fade out and the total fade-out selection hit. It seems no better when it is on maximum fade-out selection nor does it seem any higher with the total fade-out.

Is anybody having the same problem? If so, how was it taken care of?

There is also a way in there increase the volume, fade, treble and bass of her voice.

Definitely Not an RFM Question!

This is one of those questions that is not addressed in the manual.

One day I returned to the car and the voice volume was at a whisper. The owner's manual for command under "Voice Volume" incorrectly tells you to adjust the fadeout (huh?) The dealer said it is not adjustable other than fadeout.

Remarkably, the Tele-Aid service rep had the answer and told me the fix off the top of his head (he said this is a common question):

1. Cause navigation to make an announcement (ie, hit repeat).
2. WHILE THE ANNOUNCEMENT IS BEING MADE, adjust the volume by the volume knob on the Command console to your preference.
3. Do so quickly; it won't retain adjustments made after it shuts up!

Am I the only one or has anyone else heard about this?

That's how it's done. You can also adjust the nav volume from the steering wheel volume controls, while the lady speaks. Sorry guys, but this is in the manual.

The Navigation Volume setting procedure is on Page 100 of the COMAND Operator's Manual (at least for 2004 models).

Read the procedure and immediately forget it.

Use the round dial on the COMAND panel to adjust the volume of navigation announcements as they occur.

Expensive car, cheap manual.

Don't worry about rushing. If you miss when she's talking, just hit the "RPT" or repeat button and turn the volume knob. It's not covered in the regular manual. You have to look in the one for comand.

Here is what my 04 Comand manual (page 100) says to do about volume changes... Like Nats64 says.... "Read it and forget it".... Change it with the knob.

That menu is for adjusting the volume of your radio (or CD or whatever) when the navigation voice speaks. If you pick no fade, it means you're stereo won't be turned down at all when the navigation system speaks. If you fade it out completely, the stereo is completely muted when instructions are given. None of this affects the volume of the nav.

In short - turn the knob when she talks. Use the menu on p.100 to decide what you want the radio to do when she speaks.

On mine it apears I have a set of menus for her voice that includes location (fader), volume and treble, bass. There is also ANOTHER menu for music fade, no fade, etc.

One thing you can do to make it easy is hit the REPEAT button after she speaks and then be ready to change the voume. Not too hard.

atssystems - Yep, annoying isn't it? You get all that ability to customize, but you better be quick on that dial if you just want to adjust the darn volume.

brav - that's the easiest way. "RPT" button, just below the screen on the left (at least in the US).

Hence the reason Tele-Aid told me this isn't addressed in the manual. The steps pictured from the manual only address fadout and the active audio source (CD, SAT, etc.).

I found out about this the by accident. I was getting ready to adjust the radio/CD volume when a navigation instruction was said. I ended up changing the volume of the nav. What is confusing is that you have all of these options for the treble and bass (which is pretty useless for textual instructions), but have no way to change the volue from this menu. What they should have is another soft button that allows you to change the volume. The older COMAND units also have an option that will continually say "sample" so that you can modify the options and get immediate feedback.

TPAbnz: Hi, I owe you an answer. The volume adjust for NAV can be found on page 28 of the Command operator's manual under the heading "Volume." I referring to Edition B, 10/03. It's a small note and easy to miss. I'm guessing the 04 uses the same manual as the 05, but maybe not. Since there's so much STUFF built into this car, I read the damn thing 3 times. In fact, as I researched this for you, I noticed features I forgot about. So I'm going to read it again. Thanks.

Lightbulb Control of the Nav Volume

Thanks guys. It works as advertised. This was not a problem until I, without realizing it, reduced the volume while the "voice" was active. From that point I had difficulty hearing instructions. Almost nothing in this vechicle is intuitive. Oh, well one more problem solved thanks to this Board.
