Strange differences 04/05

I have an 04 E320 4m wagon and an 05 E500 sedan. They exhibit different behavior for (1) the display in the climate control system (both are 4 zone) and (2) ventilated seats. The 05 is going in for service tomorrow. Before I ask for a repair I thought I'd see whether the 05 is acting "normally" or not by asking the Board.

(1) Climate control. The 04 when in "auto" mode, shows the small text "Auto" as well as a graphic of where the fan speed is (e.g., one bar for very slow, three bars for moderate, etc.). the 05 only says "Auto" and does not display fan speed.

(2) Ventilated seats. On the 04, the ventilated seats start out at high (3 leds lit) and turn down to medium (2 leds) and then to low (1 led). On the 05, the ventilation will stay on high unless manually reduced.

Would someone with an 05 please take a look and tell me whether my car is behaving normally. Thanks.

I have a 04 and can confirm that my car does exactly the same thing your 04 does. Now you just need someone with a 05.

The ventilated seats on my '05 start at 3 bars and stay there until I turn them down or off.

The seat heaters starts on 3 bars, then go to 2, 1 and then off after a while.

My '05 behaves the exact same way

I think we're OK.

Can someone with an 05 please help out on the climate control issue as above, and let me now whether my 05 is behaving "normally". Thanks.

That's what I meant above. I have no graphical display for fan speed either. And my seats never leave level 3 unless I change them.

Don't have the ventilated seats but the fan display is performing correctly. The removal of the fan speed display was one of a number of mods to the Heating system for 05 cars, including:

Change of grille design on dash from slats to mesh
Deletion of vents in the centre console cubby
Deletion of central temp adjuster between central dash vents.

And presumably a load of under the surface mods. I find that the 05 car is better at keeping a warm feet / cool face setting than the 04 car, which froze my feet whilst keeping my face quite warm (both on auto).

I should say there is a graphic for fan speed if you adjust it manually. The display goes out when in auto which is where I leave it.

With all the decontenting, this one is pretty minor. I really don't care what fan speed the car picks in auto mode as long as it's keeping me cool. If I'm going to adjust it manually, it does show the graphic.

I agree. I don't consider this decontenting in the sense that a function was changed. I only asked the question in the first place because I thought my 05 fan display had a problem when I compared it to my 04. But it is not important -- for exampole compared to drive dynamic seats, which I love and which I understand you can't even pay extra for any more.

Dropping the drive dynamic seats option is a bad idea. Take or leave them, it's one of those options that makes the E unique.

The seats are designed that way. Think about it, when it's hot outside, do you want to ventilated seats to slow down and stop? Not really. That is in constrast to the heated seats, which have fulfilled thier purpose once you are warm.

One other small detail - If you set it so that one light of the ventilated seat is on, the heated seats will stay on until you turn it off!

Well no, I don't want them to change. But it sounds like they did on the '04s. I was just saying that now it appears they don't.
