Cheaper lease on E500 than E350?!

I was just playing around on mbusa.con building cars and discovered that an identically equipped E500 costing $66,434 is $70 a month cheaper to lease than an E350 costing $63,419, both with a $4,000 down payment, 15,000 miles a year 39 month lease. How can this be?

Higher residual on the E500.. at $63419, you are seriously overpaying for an E350 and the bank knows they can't sell it for as much as a used E500, no matter what the options are. When I originally looked at leasing my MB (I decided to buy) the E320 CDI has the best lease price due to the high resale, followed by the E500 then the E350.

E500 leasing...

Also,

Right now, MB is offering a 5000 factory to dealer sales incentive on the 500, so i'm certain the lease must have some incentives as well. I ended purchasing the 500 (all be it a 2005) for the same price as a E350 - NO BRAINER!!!!

Damn, if you get one at invoice +5K off - thats huge! I have heard people getting 9K off of 320s. I would go for the 350- great power and mileage, but not at the same price as a 500.

Probably cuz the new 5.5L V8 (388hp) that will make it's intro in the new S-Class will also make it's way to the E-Class. They need to get rid of their outdated technology.

outdated technology...

I guess you're right...there's tons of choices with v8's at 300+hp w/ awd that make the e500 "outdated"

The base price is around HK$ 424,324 (around USD 54,576) before tax. The tax table is as following:
Private cars First Registered Tax-
(a) on the first HK$150,000 (around USD 19,355) 35%
(b) on the next HK$150,000 (around USD 19,355) 65%
(c) on the next HK$200,000 (around USD 25,723) 85%
(d) on the remainder 100%
So I need to pay for the tax on
a) HKD 52,500 + b) HKD 97,500 + c) HKD 105,675.4=total HKD 255,675.4 (around USD 32,884)
One year licence fee HKD 7,664 + one year Insurance HKD 30,000=HKD37,664 (sround USD 4,844.25)

Than here comes another killing part.........
The E350 price at HK$ 424,324 (around USD 54,576) just the "base price". When you add some options, the price will top up the base price. On the other hand, every option you choose will be an additional 85% taxable. For example, the sunroof (this is not an add-on options ) cost HKD 10,200, but I need to pay HKD 18,870 (HKD 10,200 + tax HKD 8,670 =around USD 2,427) for that. Unfortunately, if the total options + base price is above HKD 500,000 than the above amount will need to pay additional 100% tax.

By the way, I heard that the E350 will cost around USD 130,000 in Taiwan. :p

well pratas, I must assume two things about East Asia then..

1) people are very well paid..
2) the rich do a lot for the poor in the form of tax and wealth transfer.

both good if they are sustainable.

Hate to see the cost of a Bently Azure.

As for outdated technology, I hear you aceman... I am being told my 2005 CDI is outdated because MB decided to go to an aluminum V6 to save weight and space... never-mind that only in 2004 (last year) they called this a state of the art, latest and greatest Diesel engine.

oh well, one would go broke keeping up with technology these days.
