Apples and oranges. You are going from a sports luxury sedan to a sports car. The vette will definitely be quicker and handle better, but you'll hardly have any carrying capacity for passageners or goods.

Depends on you needs. The vettes are a great bang for the buck IMHO.

Price is about all the cars have in common. The Corvette may be a very fine sports car that does Ferrari numbers at a fraction of the price, but I personally wouldn't want the baggage that comes with it. Dan Neil, auto writer for the LA Times, put it this way last year:

"Very few women — Angelyne notwithstanding — drive Corvettes, for instance. Corvette has long since passed into the popular imagination as a vehicular codpiece, a high-performance sock-in-the-crotch favored by men of a certain age and hairline. This image is as durable as it is patently unfair — the Corvette is one of the world's great sports cars and I'd take one in a minute, regardless of the snide whispers behind my back."

It's your money, though, so do whatever makes you happy. Now, if you wanted to kick off a debate on the E500 vs. the BMW 545, or the Infiniti M45, or the Lexus GS 430, that might be different .... except that we've already had all those debates.

But for having kids I would have seriously considered

a 'Vette. But, the realities of family life and having 2 kids preclude such a car. Need 4 seats and 4 doors.

I could almost get over the stigma of being a Corvette owner with the new Z06.

500hp makes up for a lot of stereotyping.

In that case, get the Vette. I was just going to say that Lionhead would be a good one to ask since as I recall, he was looking at these a while back as well.

Or you can throw that motor into this..

which is what I'm going to do. Only weighs 2200 lbs wet, a lot lighter than vette. Nothing on the road would touch it. You have it built for the price of a Z06 or less..

Good luck finding a Z06 at a dealer for sticker. Expect to pay 5-20k above sticker for a while. Too many E500s too few '06 Z06s (not to mention the depreciation on your car right about now).

Also, don't expect too much for your trade in. Dependent on mileage, but I'd guess anywhere from 52k-55k... which makes a difference of about 30k to a new Z06..

Get the Vette

Looking at your sig line looks like you have enough people-movers and grocery getters around, esp with the GX and LX.

Plus, the BMW is somewhat of a duplicity...high end sedan.

BTW how do you like your GX? Those look like a wonderful vehicle for the money.

If you don't mind buying used...a nice alternative would be an '01 996TT...it's about the price range of a new Z06.

The posche TT is a good alternative but the vette is faster and warranty wise the TT wont have any. The GX lexus I have until now I like it but the LX is way better feel on the road but for the money it is the best alternative in small suv my doesnt have the third row seats in the back so this way I have extra room to carry stuff.

Here in Puerto Rico all cars which are luxury meaning sticker $40,000 and above are subject o pay 40% tax on sticker which means my car came out to ruffly $ 100,000 ! if I was to sell it or give it in trade in I would give NO less than $ 90,000... All others cars which are not luxury pay from 20% to 35% tax. The Z06 here it will be in the $105,000 rang fully loaded.

The porsche TT brand new goes for $165,000 new but there are people selling them used for about $ 115,000 with 10,000 to 20,000 miles....

Not a Noble - its a Factory Five Racing GTM. Kit car . I sold out for that instead of the noble- cheaper and better looking, probably faster.

Sorry for the hijack.

I've checked out the new C6 vettes and the interior quality falls way short of anything you're used to with an E class. For the money you'll pay out the door on a new Z06 wait for a left over 05 E55 and get the best of both worlds; speed and class.

Near where I live, a Z06 price carries a "market adjustment" $10K, and you have to wait for it !!!.

Can't remmember any Benz that still have mark-up now. All AMG models now could be bought at MSRP or less.

For luxury and comfort ride, the E trounce the Z06, but if you're looking at fun, and depreciation, the Z06 is a beast.

The Z06 will depreciate less than the E500. At least for a couple of years.
