Bubbles in tires!!

I just noticed today that my front two tires have bubbles in them. I dont know how this happened as I very seldomly hit potholes. I guess since my car is a E320 sport and runs 17 inch wheels I would be more prone to this sort of thing.

Can anyone recommend a way for me to prevent the tires from bubbling in the future?

Had the same thing happen before. Just make sure you're tire pressure is not too low.

Whats a good psi to run all 4 tires at? (245/45/17)

I think right now their running at 30 something.

And even if I have a very small bubble should I replace the tire?

If you're running stock setup, check on your driver side door. There's some information there that will tell you how much pressure you should be running. If you're using after market setup check the tires. Should tell you. I THINK for 17's probably around 33-35. Not sure on that but again check your tires. Yes replace the tire. It'll just get worse in the long run.

Yeah its running at around 33 psi now, should I bump it up to 40 psi or something like that to prevent future bubbles?

The roads in NY were meant for SUVs.

Also, when you have bubbles I think that is called blistering and that is from the tires getting too hot if I am not mistaken.

4 wheels
I run at 35 all around on my E55, E350, TL, and Ody. Excellent gas mileage, nice crisp ride but soft too, and all not very noisy. I have noticed better gas mileage in the TL and E350 when the tires are kept at 35 all around, the increase has been as much as 4mpg on the E350 to about 5mpg on the TL. In todays times its welcome.

I too have been running mine higher than recommended on my '05 E320. I spoke with my service advisor, who said it would do no harm other than ride more stiffly. I have the appearance package and 17" wheels, with the Michelin Pilot tires. I run them at 36 front and 38 rear. Car handles much better and quicker this way, and I agree, the mileage improves as well.

Unless you're driving at over 100mph all of the time, you'll start to prematurely wear out the crown of the tyres.

Actually, I have even wear on the tires in all the cars when they are held at 35psi.

I don't know how new or old your tires are, but you might want to check with the manufacturer of the tires, they are usually pretty good about standing behind their products with unusual wears that's not normal wear and tear. They might replace it for you or sell you new ones at discount. but definitely, get them replaced as they don't sound safe.

I am assuming you're talking about the raised "bubble" on the side wall? Well if so, I had a set of tires before on another car, my MR2. The guys at American Tire Depot said that these so called bubbles are caused from trauma to the tires, most likely hitting or rubbing against a curb when parallel parking, more so than hitting potholes.

Back in March of this year I discovered a bubble on front driver side tire of my 2004 E500, it was a Michelin Pilot.

I went to Penske MB in West Covina, CA and the service advisor told me it's under warranty but it would be better if I go to a Michelin tire reseller since they are not a Michelin dealer thus they do not have a replacement in stock and have to order it and will takes couple days. I was like "WTF just order me a replacement, it's part of your job". Couple weeks went by I heard nothing from the dealer so I called them up but the service advisor wasn't there; I asked if someone else can check the status for me and none of the service advisor will. Only the service advisor assigned to me can view my record.

Anyway, sorry about the rant. Just want to tell you if your car is under warranty they will replace it for you.

Here is a suggestion: Don't drive like an idiot! Bubbles do not form from normal driving! They form from people driving like they are running a race track. BTW: Mercedes-benz knows this issue and will blaim YOU!
