Problems retrofitting Navigation
Problems retrofitting Navigation
I have an 04 E500 and tried adding navigation. My car was already wired for navigation, it just didnt have the drive in the trunk. So I bought the drive and the DVD an wired the drive. The only wire that has nowhere to go is the antenna cable. I noticed when I did a search that someone added a splitter. Do I need to do this or is there somewhere in my car that I can connect too? There is one antenna wire that was already connected that is probably for the radio, but there are no loose inputs to add the navigation one to. Thanks in advance for your help.

There are several specific variants of the w211. You need to compile your information in relation to your build date.
There are too many versions to go from one set of generic information.

Thanks Bud, thats the same thread that I saw. The only difference with my car is that it was already wired for navigation, so I didnt ned to add any cables. So my only issue now is the antenna, but I may have to add a splitter like Steph did. Thanks.

My car has the same wire configuration as your. I hooked up the wires, but it was not recognized by the COMMAND. When I hit the NAV button, it displays "Navigation device is unavailable". I'll take my car to the dealer next thursday, I'll let you know how it goes.
All W211 except the early MY03 in the US has navigation prewire. You do not need dealer to program your AGW for the nav to work. You will need to program it if you want the nav info to show up in your dash multi function display, but it's not required for the nav itself to work.
You will need to splitter for the nav to share the tele-aid antenna. I don't know if you can just unplug the tele-aid antenna and use it for nev drive. Give it a try and let us know.

hi
i am looking at a 2006 350.
is the comand standard?
i see a navigation option on the m.b website and was wondering (after i read a thread that navigation can be fitted afterwards) if it is cheaper to fit it later?
thanks

The nav drive is recognised without any AGW programming but as teh AGWs already have enough (software) problems by themselves - I advise to get the MOST configuration changed through stardiagnose to limit the problems one can have with the AGW...especially when one has the phone and VR installed.
For the person who has a recognition problem of the nav drive: as long as the nav drive is not included in the MOST ring - it will not be recognised at all...let us know how long the dealer needs to get that figured out.
greetingz,

greetingz,
I live in Minnesota or else I would have brought the car to you. I suspect the dealer have little knowledge about these thing. For my car, the optic cable are already prewire and run separate from the AGW module. So I just plug that into the drive, and got that recognition problem. Is there any other optic cable that I need to switch?

greetingz,
I think I found the problem, one of the optic wire is not connected to the MOST loop. I don't know where to connect this cable to.(picture attached)
If anyone know, please point me to where to connect this into the MOST loop.
Thanks

there is another one like that...it is longer and has a black 180 degree connector at the end...it is at the bottom of the B-pillar and is usually stuck there (need to take the B-pillar cover off as you cannot pull fiber without risking to damage it).
make sure that you have two ends and add those tow end to the active fiberring by taking one of those other 180 degree connectors apart (to be seen in the picture) and cross connect the 4 fiber ends (properly).

greetingz,
I just don't understand the part you said about " cross connect the four fiber ends". I though the 180-degree connector only connect 2 fiber ends together.
I wish one of your stop is in MN. You could solve these problems for me.The dealer did not know anything, they tried to program it last Friday but unsuccessful.
