Mercedes 03 E500
problem still unresolved

The driver's seat on my 03 E500 is still intermittently coming up to its setting when I start the car. I just wondered if anyone else out there is having this problem and how they resolved it. First thing in the morning when the car is cold the seat always moves. Sometimes the fourth or fifth time I get back in it just sits there and I have to hit the memory button on the door to bring it up to my setting. The car has been to two separate sevice depts numerous times, and they claim the problem can't be duplicated. They have fooled around with the settings internally, replaced control modules, etc., but can't seem to fix the problem. I should add that the seat always retracts backwards when the car is stopped and drivers door is opened. Does anyone out there have any ideas???

I know if the seat or steering wheel isn't very close in that the point at which the feature works isn't reached. Try to move your seat close in and steering wheel down, and see if that causes it to work.

It sounds like you have the "Easy Entry/Exit" option turned on since the seat goes back when you open the door. Do you intend to have this option turned on? If you stand outside of the car and run the seat as far forward as it will go, it will perform a reset. I have had to perform this reset a couple of times.

This is not uncommon, or some derivative. I have similar problems- except my lumbar, thigh support etc inflate irraticaly. Also - sometimes my steering column will not come back down after closing the door. Sometimes it does halfway... there is a BUS system for the seats- needs to be replaced, good luck getting them to do it.. im working on the same thing.

Does anyone know whether there is a technical service bulletin on this that I can raise with the service manager?
