Sputtering Problem?
Today i the car started to do a sputter, as if it was trying to start in 5th gear. It felt like a manual car when its about to stall, it jerked and jerked and jerked. Anyone else had this happen to them?

I've had a mild case of something like that, as have others in this forum. In my case, I've noticed that when the car is moving forward very slowly, like when I'm looking for a space in a parking lot, it will sometimes "surge" or "buck" a bit like the transmission is in too high a gear. I only notice the problem when the car is slowed from a higher speed, not when I'm starting from a stop. I keep meaning to slap the gearshift to the left (to shift into the lowest allowable gear, which would probably be 1st) to see if that elminates the "surging", but so far the "surging" has only lasted a moment or two.

opposite for me
I've noticed that, especially when the car is cold, it stays in low gear for an extended RPM before it shifts up.. but this goes away after about 15mph... but the sputter issue only happened once for me when I floored it to pass and it seems to temporarily hesitate.. I assume it's a software glitch.

I've been struggling with a similar problem for the better part of 2 years - I come to a stop slowly and the car idles roughly causing the car to shake. I don't know if this is an engine problem or transmission problem or both, but it is only intermittant. I have had the fuel pump and air mass flow controller replaced in an effort to fix the problem, but still it persists. Recently my SA suggested I try a lower grade of gasoline (premium is all I have ever put in the car - Shell/Chevron). After trying that for a couple of tanks there was no improvement.
In addition to the intermittant shaking problem I at times experience hesitation in acceleration after coming to a slow or rolling stop. This issue I find more irritating in that when I put my foot on the gas I want to feel immeditae accleration - not some lag time of a couple tenths of a second.

Ill try to look for the paperwork. I remember this issue coming up in the forums a while ago. I printed out the solution posted by one of the members and brought it to my SA.

read the thread link. Thanks! It seems to describe what we're talking about. I'll bring it to my SA tomorrow and see what they have to say about it. Great information on this forum as usual.

7 speed tranny jerking
Hi Guys - -well, you've got the honor of reading my first post to the site (which has been an AWESOME resource by the way).
I purchased a 05 E500 about 2 months back (Feb 2005 build), and, am experiencing some pretty rough jerking at lower speeds, especially when downshifting.
Took the car in for its complimentary service to Claridges' (Fremont, CA) -- at first, the SA and tech asked me to recreate the issue. Did so easily -- tech claimed that this is a known issue for the new 7sp tranny; MB is "working" on a SW update. The SA did not even bother to log the issue on my report since he claimed the car was operating normal (my $20k camry is smoother than my $60k E500 right now).
But, read that others have gotten the SW update, or, have had their TCU replaced. Is there a particular SW version that I should mandate that it get upgraded to?
Any recommendations for trustworthy SAs I could talk to in the Bay Area, CA? Is there a TSB out for this?
Thanks!
