I put the rubber mat from the dealer in the place of my cancer pot.....

Its a great storage place now.

The small rubber mat came with the car and was in the glove compartment. I don't know if it has a part# and can be ordered or not. Check with your dealer.

 

It can be ordered through the parts department. It used to come with the car, (mine's an '04 & came with it) but as a cost cutting measure was deleted from standard equipment.

 

Don't mean to undercut you but I have ashtray for sale as well as a leather wheel (black or whatever it is called).

 

The MB part number is: 211-683-00-51. It costs $4.95.

The parts department at any MB dealer should be able to order it for you.

 

So MBUSA saved approximately a million or so in production cost and, at the same time, substantially increased their part sales simply because they removed the $5 mat.

Anyway, for those who are thinking about moving on remember to take the mat and glove box shelf with you since they remain compatible (e-class). By the way, the mat is also compatible with the CLS.

 

While I was waiting for my '05 E to come in, I got an '03 E500 as a loaner. Curiously for this thread, it smelled like an ashtray inside. I opened up the glove box to familiarize myself with the manual before my new car arrived, and there inside was the mat for the ashtray. Guess where it is now? I didn't know about the glovebox shelf, but I'm not sure there was one in the parts car - er, I mean loaner.
