E500 is awesome!

Hey all,

I'm in Luxembourg visiting relatives, and my godfather had his E55 in the shop for repair, and the loaner was a brand new E500. I got the chance to drive it from Luxembourg to Dusseldorf (approx. 250km), and I must say, this car is great! The airmatic suspension is so smooth, and all the little gadgets in the car make it very comfortable. The distronic is cool, but I much prefer accelerating myself as it maxes at 180km/h. The one thing that stood out right away were the brakes. These things are STRONG. The E55 has some heavy brakes, but the E500 brakes are much better IMO. What else... the entire car is just fantastic. It was great when the needle hit 260km/h Just remember to adjust the suspension stiffness when you want to really kick it into high gear, hehe.

I wish I had one of these in my garage at home!

That's right, they are simply great, feels like dropping the anchors when putting the foot down on the brake pedal. Probably it has a lot to do with SBC that was originally launched on the SL.

how does the ride of the 500 feel with the "sport" suspension setting selected compared to the E55? does the ride feel the same?

Sorry, no pics Didn't think about it. The car was their demo model, so it had this ugly text along the side that said something to the effect of "The new E class" (in french).

Anyway, the stiffness in sport mode is comparable to the E55 i think, if not a little better. You REALLY notice a difference when on the 2nd setting (two dots).

I was really surprised when my godfather drove up in the E500. I didn't think they gave those out as loaners. Anyway, was a nice experience.

Sounds like a salesman is doing his homework and trying to hook a new E 500 or W211 E55 AMG owner...
