Hello Everyone,
I have just placed a deposit for a new W211 E320 Elegance today and thought I would see if there are any chat forums dealing with MB subjects, and this one came up.
My car will not arrive till May 2003 so I have some time to work out colors and specs.
One color that I have just seen on a swatch is Cubanite Silver. It looks to me like the old Smoke Silver MB made before it turned more beige and became Travative Beige.
I am interested if any of you have seen this color on a new CLK or E and how it looked.
What color leather was matched to it?
I buy a new car every 15-20 years or so and as such want to get the color right!
Is Travertine beige still a popular choice in the new shaped E?
Thanks for you help in advance,
Callaway

the car will not arrive until may 2003??? where do you live?? because according to my dealer in southern calif, you can have the E320 in September 2002, and for the color, there are two silver, one is brilliant silver and the other is desert silver. I put order on brilliant silver.

I have specified that the car will arrive in May as my lease ends then but I could have got it in December 2002.
What color is Desert Silver as the Australian brochures only list Brilliant Silver,Travertine Beige and Cubanite Silver as the only silver based colors?

I was a Travertine Beige supporter, I thought it would look good on new E, but we ended up buying Brilliant Silver and I haven't regretted ever since. I have seen W210 and W203 in that Beige on the road and I didn't like it, I'm sure I would have been disappointed in it if bought. It looks too beige, too brown on the scale silver-brown. I thought that Brilliant Silver is too common, but I don't care now, there is a reason for it, the car looks great in it!

Callaway,
I found the color that you are considering on the Mexican Merecedes site http://www.mercedesbenz.com.mx Cubanite Silver seems to be just like Desert Silver metallic here in the US. It is probably just renamed in the U.S. because any reference to Cuba is taboo.

Close, Ciscobigot, but no cigar (sorry, couldn't resist the Cuba pun).
Cubanite is a rather rare bronze/yellowish mineral composite of copper/iron sulfide.
Has nothing to do with politics, geography or obnoxious Mavericks basketball owners.

Cuba is a U.S. embargoed country, along w/ N. Korea, Iran, Iraq, Lybia... Importing Cuban products is a violation of the U.S. embargo.

Thanks for your help guys.I do tend to think Travertine is a little too brown.I will just wait till September to see the new colors in the metal and then decide.
My only problem is I really don't like dark interiors and the Brilliant Silver looks a lot better in Anthacite leather than in grey in my opinion as with a lighter color the wood and interior details stand out more.

Thanks for reading into my little joke associating Cubanite and Cuba in terms of the name difference between the U.S. MB marketing of colors and the rest of the world. How do you know so much about mineral composites? I guess I wouldn't get this type of a percise answer on a BMW forum.

I took the liberty to attach the desert silver to show the distinctions between the three colors. The top one is desert silver, the middle is cubanit silver and the bottom one is brilliant silver.

That sure looks like the new USA MY03 color called Pewter, code 723. From looking at the new '03 SL brochure, Pewter is right in the middle between Brilliant Silver and Desert Silver. ...RAB
