E500 front rotors: Are they really 13.0 inch size?

Yesterday, my friend visited me with his new SLK 350 with 17 inch wheels. While looking at the front brake rotors, I got the feeling that they were a lot bigger than those on my E500, even though they are supposed to be the same size (13.0 inches). I investigated further and noticed that there is considerably more room between brake rotor and rim on my car than on his, despite the fact that both cars have 17 inch wheels. I am beginning to get the feeling that U.S. spec E500s have the same brakes as E320s. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes, both vehicles have 13" rotors. When you say "brake rotor and rim" do you mean space between the rotor and the top of the wheel on the inside, or do you mean between the rotor and the spokes of the wheel?

They are 13" in diameter...

Here's a picture of my Bimmer with 13" brakes & 17" wheels. They look real big in relation to the ridge that juts out towards the spokes, but would look more like the e500 brakes if that ridge wasn't there.

I meant between the rotor and top of the wheel on the inside.
