I just checked the oil readout on level ground after letting it sit for a few hours and it says between 7.2 and 7.3 quarts. 7.9 quarts is the max capacity. Should I refill half a quart to max or not? Where can I purchase Mobil 1 0W-40 oil in the Ventura County area?

I wouldn't add any oil. The car will tell you when the oil level is too low. If you add without that warning, you risk overfilling, which is a big no-no.

Wal-Mart has dropped the 0W-40 Mobil 1 here in Michigan, alas. The best I've been able to do is find it from a Michigan distributor @ $6.29/qt.

I agree, don't add any oil unless you get a message to do so. You should be able to get the oil at Autozone.

Here's the list of oils recommended for use with the FSS System...

Refilling oil

I was only going to put in 0.3 to 0.4 quarts. It is really hot in California right now and I want to have the engine running with as much oil as possible without overfilling it. I tried Pep Boys and Autozone but they didn"t have 0W-40. Guess I'll have to drop by the stealership.

Arente there any Mobil stations in your area? Stop by a owner operated one & ask him how much the "case price" would be for you if you had him order you a case. There are only 6 or 9 to a case I believe.
