Still having driver's seat problems

My easy entry drivers seat function always works upon stopping the car. However, upon starting, it intermittently fails to come up to my setting. I have keyless go, but have also had the seat "stick" when using the key to start the car. I have about 6,000 miles on it but this has happened since the car was new. Been to two dealers, and neither service department can fix it. They replaced the control module, but seat is still sticking sometimes. Strangely, it never seems to happen first thing in the morning when the car is cold. Any ideas out there? Granted, it's not a huge problem, but is annoying to sit there to wait if the seat will move to it's setting without having to press the button on the driver's door. Anyone else with this problem? Thanks in advance.

I've been complaining about this feature's erratic operation since delivery. Chalk it up to a poor design, poorly executed. Real crap.

I had similar problems, took it to the dealer, and he did a "Reset procedure" on it where he went all the way forward/back etc.. and it was all good after that. I know that if you disconnect the battery you get this type of behavior on a lot of items, including windows and sunroof.

I also complained about my "key dependant memory" for the seat position (only) because it stopped working... They replaced the seat control unit that is appearantly under the seat as it was removed to do the fix.

So far so good... The seat now goes back much further than before and seems to work as designed.

Seat failure

I got the same problem 3 times since I bought my W211 last March. I noticed whenever I parked inside a hot and humid parking lot for more than 3 to 4 hours, this problem come up. The mercedes dealer all can do was to reset the computer. But, I remember they once replaced the control module for my car as well. Seems this is fatal design problem :-(

I love my W211 so I have to love all its dark side.

How far does your seat go? or how far is the back of the the front seat from the rear bench when the seat is in the rear-most position?

3 inches.... or about two inches from its most furthest rearward setting.

Distance from back seat

I just measured the distance the front seat is from the back seat bench when set goes back after stopping. It is approximately 12 inches. Does this have anything to do with the intermittent problem of seat not coming foreward to it's preset position? Don't forget, this is an intermittent problem, which never happens when car is first started in the A.M. It also seems to generally happen upon starting car around the fourth, fifth, or sixth time during the day, then will not happen again for several starts. Dealers (2) in my area have no fix for this. They did remove seat (I believe) and replace seat control module at one point months ago.

Mine in my 05 works flawlessly. After delivery they reset the rearward position of the easy exit to give more rear travel. I also learned that you must do 2 complete set ups on this, one for each key.

Did you know that they didn’t remove the easy entry/exit feature in its entirety? The feature still exists however now only the steering moves up upon exit and down to your desired position upon entry. Pleasant surprise although I must admit, I never once had a problem with both the seat and steering wheel moving in the '03 e320, and miss the seat not moving in the CLS.

I can't believe they've eliminated another feature!

More de-contenting. Despite having my intermittent problem with seat failing to come back to it's setting, I still would rather have the easy entry feature than not. That's the reason we didn't accept offer of a new lease and replacement car. Can't live without the charcoal filter, rest, drive-dynamic seats, independent lockable trunk, etc. Once you have had them, it's hard to give them up. Hopefully, MB will rethink and perfect these features and bring them back eventually. Until then, I'll keep my car.

I just had some back surgery 4 weeks ago and I will not even be close to normal until Thanksgiving. What does this have to do with this thread? Well, I have only been driving my E320 since surgery because I immediately remembered that it had the easy entry/exit feature. I activated it in the MFD menu and I find it to be a GOD SEND!!!! I am 32 years old, and I never thought I would be using this feature or have a handicap parking permit!

I have parked my Audi S6 and hooked it up to the battery maintainer. The car has been collecting dust for the last 4 weeks+. It has OK seats and the steering column can easily be tilted all the way up, but the seat does not move back like the Es. Not to mention that pushing that clutch pedal is currently painful. I hope to get that turbo up and smoking in the next few weeks though.

So, don't tell me that this is being discontinued! I find yet another reason I should keep my 2004 E for even longer. I love the under mirror entry lights, the "rest" feature on the A/C, my option to have cold air through the center two vents when the heat is on, my butterfly center console, the refrigerated bottom part of the console, the free service. . . What else are they going to get rid of?

I think that I might keep this E as my beater car, eventually sell my rocket ship S6 and buy a powerful new body style S class (hopefully at least the 4 liter CDI). If it has these features I love on my 2004 E class, that is.
