heated steering wheel?

I was reading the instruction book.....I haven't gotten my E350 yet tho...and I read about a heated steering wheel. There is nothing on Mbusa or the sales brochure about this feature/option.

Is this standard for the E350 or is it an option? I ordered with appearance and prem. with pano roof etc.

Thanks,

Jerome

That's is something not offered in the USA, just like a gazillion other stuff that is not available to US customers (folding mirrors, activated charcoal filter, chilled arm-rest compartment, rear seating surface, rear seats heater, etc etc). Some of these were available on the get-go, but some were deleted as a cost saving method during MY change.

I am lucky to have it in my 03 E.

I understand the cost saving from MBUSA but I think MBUSA can provide it as an option for E customers. (Without a heated steering wheel in the cold winter, W211 definitely cannot be listed in luxury cars anymore.)

I guess I am lucky having ordered mine early in Sept 2002. The heated steering was a $400 option, but well worh it in the winter. Charcoal filter, chilled armrest compartment are standard on mine

Gee. I got the first CDI that came in and ordered it with the heated steering wheel as part of a package including the heated seats. It works very well.

ACtually USA cars are some of the most fully loaded benzs out there. Other countries have a/c optional with cloth seats. dimming mirrors? forget it. It's an option.

Maybe I'm spoiled, I grew up in Hong Kong and every MBZ that I've seen is more loaded than the ones in the States.

I have a heated steering wheel in my CDI. I've only tested it in warm weather to see if it works. I'll let you know in January if it's a must have option.

the rear seating surface of the lower E models (without premium or Avantgarde pkg) has MB-Tex (Vinyl) seats in the back as standard.

Charcoal filter = activated charcoal filter that is supposed to filter your incoming cabin air better than the regular filter

I am aware of this, but in your prior post you listed "rear seating surface" in the list of items NOT available in the US... I have this "surface" .. did you mean to say in Europe they're all leather or all vinyl, and no mix?

yeah, the seating are supposed to be leather inserts with vinyl on the sides, like my C320.

In Europe, there are a lot more choices on the seating surface as well, i.e. Designo personalization.

I feel the MB pricing of options in different countries is similar to the oil companies' pricing in this country. They charge whatever the market can bear! Oil companies charge higher prices in high rent districts.

Can you choose a full range of designo options in the US? No, you're only offered "packages", which totally defeat the purpose of customization.

Wow, just went to the MBUSA web site. Horrors! Steering wheel heat is, indeed, no longer offered. Also gone are multi-contour/drive dynamic seats, and who knows what else! What can DC be thinking?

We would not have our CDI if the available options had been as sparse a year ago as they are now. The wife considers a heated steering wheel to be as essential as A/C, cruise and a radio. She uses the drive dynamic seat function any time she has the car, and I love the massage feature and the multi-contour adjustability.

FWIW, I've been underwhelmed by MB's implementation of steering wheel heat. It is feeble, takes a long time to warm up and is several cuts short of the steering wheel heat on our previous BMW (BMW does many things much better than M-B, IMHO, excluding styling, idrive and the wierdo steering).

although the USA does not have a total customization process for Designo, the packages have been well picked out and nothing as been left out. Paint, interior trim, carpet, interior color, leather, etc. It is a pretty comprehensive package. As for vented seats gone, i am not surprised. they were not very efficient. I have them in my C. Dynamic seats are nice though.
