smart key problem

smart key problem
hi all,
recently noticed that my range has been cut down on the smart key, i thought it was the battery. bought new batteries and same problem. i have to stand right by the driver door and aim it at the black square dot on the handle. any solutions?

do you have keyless-go? i'm assuming you don't otherwise it won't be the black square dot, it'd be a button.
the only solution i can think of is the battery - perhaps try another set? the key doesn't seem to be spoiled from your description, just weak.

Had a similar problem on my 211. Found out that the key works on infra red and radio waves. If you have to go right upto the door to unlock then there is something wrong with the radio waves/transmitter (key) or reciever in the front screen. Infra red use of the key is just a back up.
Fortunately for me it turned out to be a blown fuse in the rear SAM but the dealer did tell me that some SAMs are being replaced due to other problems.

What car and what options do you have? If you have no Keyless go, sounds like a problem with the antenna amplifier/rear sam. The antennas are in the rear glass and the amps are mounted on the interior C pillars.
