E350 Engine Oil Level
According to the owner's manual, pages 320 and 321, the engine oil level can be checked using the Multi Function Display. After trying to find that screen in the display, without any success, I called 800-FOR-MERC for assistance and was advised that the engine oil level, with the new E350, can only be checked with the dipstick. According to the Customer Service Rep, that feature was discontinued with the E350.
Can anyone confirm that information?
Thanks,
Steve

Thanx for reminding me....I knew the W211 had this capabilty but I'm now realizing that my E350 can't do this either. See how they are decontenting the car? Yeah we got a better engine, that's true. They save money and cut corners where they see fit. Thinking things like this are not necessary. Like a cheap console, no puddle lamps etc. BMW is also nickle and diming their customers. And we pay double price for each option we want, while it's cheaper or even standard with the competition. Thanks. Want to know why they get away with it even if you call to ask?....fine print always says: "features are subject to change without notice" What a line of BS. Still false advertising if you ask me. Meanwhile the rest of the auto industry continually upgrades their lines. MB used to be cutting edge but now more concerned about margins they are going to be passed aside the smarter those Japaneese guys get. (they are starting to get it right, look out) Sorry to complain, just an ol MB customer used to the way they used to make em.

Call me crazy or perhaps old fashioned, but I would prefer a dipstick any time.... Nothing like seeing your oil level and being able to see what color it is.

I did my share... many a call/letter about this "new" leaner and meaner MB. The sad thing is all of these idiots who compare directly the Japanese cars that cost less to MB are only harming this situation as MB can't seem to impress them with real value, they want the cheapest car and that's what MB is giving them, at the expense of making it a real MB.

I wouldn't put too much stock into the oil level readout in the cluster. I saw a few days ago a CDI that was overfilled by about a quart and half. The cluster indicated that the level was ok. I told the guy how much went in and he drained it, put in the right amount and it again said level ok after the waiting period.
Hands down the dipstick is where its at.

have you tried the "push odo reset button 3 times" method of reading the oil?
-ignition on pos 1
-display set to temp/speed readout
-press odo reset button 3 times
-select oil level / vin number page
-move ignition key to pos 2
-read quantity.
Mine is dead on.. I just did an oil change where they sucked it out of the top.. 7.0 L came out of 7.1 that was showing as quantity... We then added 2 gallons, or 7.5 Liters and the readout showed 7.5 after I checked it. Seems pretty accurate as long as you let the oil drain into the pan for a while before you do it. I always do it first thing in the morn...

2003 E320
My 2003 E320 used to display the oil level but now it does not display oil level or gear indicator. All at once several things failed, SRS light constantly on, both seats will not move, steering column wont move and theres a 0600 serial communication malfunction. Oh the cooling fan runs at high speed constantly and the ac off light flashes.
