$375 to change brake pads???

I feel like I got ripped off, I paid Mercedes Benz of Pembroke Pines $375 to change the rear brake pads in a 2004 E320. He said there is an extra hour of labor because the brakes have to be programmed via a laptop. Is this really what it costs or did I get ripped off? And I thought 2004's came with a full warranty??

Brakes are not a warranty or free maint item. They are a consumable. The price you paid was about normal in my estimation. There is a proceedure required for changing the pads on the W211 related to the electronic system but I am not certain exactly what it is or how long it takes. Why the rear pads only?? Thought the fronts usually go first.

Ouch At best 1 hour of labor + cost of pads. around a $150.00 job

Your car has sensotronic brake control, The system is deactivated using the shop computer. The vehicle computer also need's to be recalibrated for the new pads so that the SBC and ESP can function.

OR...they might do what a lot of dealers and D.Y.I.'ers do, just unplug the cable to the SBC controller.

Changing the rear pads with a lift and impact wrench available doesn't take long. I don't know how long it takes to deactivate SBC but you can bet that the wrench wasn't standing around waiting for it to get done.

No offense pal, but lay down the crack pipe for a second and re-read your post. "The price you paid was about normal in my estimation."????

I can get all 4 pads (f/r) done for less than that in Scottsdale AZ at Schumacher,.

I have called MB Pembroke Pines for miscellaneous services (I live literally behind the dalership) and they have quoted me the highest prices. I have heard good things about http://www.europeanautoservice.net/. You might want to give them a try for other non-warranty service.

Mercedes Brakes (DIY)

I gues all your guys are getting riped off big style.
I purchased GENUINE M/B brake pads (all four corners) front and back the price I paid was £98 about $170 US and was surprised to find the censors included in the box this price included trade discount here in the U.K.

The job took me just a little over a hour to complete all four corners.

You will find on how to disable the SBC pump to work on the brakes here on this forum.

The job is just like any other brake pad replacement.

Un-huh however, quite honesty I am at the point in life where “I no longer want (or even need) to get my finger nails dirty” if you know what I mean.

Huh?

Car over lift.

Disable SBC.

Lift car.

Remove wheels.

Replace pads.

Resurface disk if necessary.

Put wheels back on.

Drop car.

Reinitiate SBC.

And that takes how long? Less then an hour on all four corners including time for a quicky by the local hookers....

The company 'required labor hours" are GENEROUS to say the least.
