When I was working in Asia during my overseas assignment, diesel prices were cheaper than regular gas prices in every country I travelled to. I don't why diesel in the US is so high.

One word (two actually)..
Heating Oil
in the US heating oil season is winter, and therefore diesel (a close relative) is more costly (always) in winter.. wait till summer and it will be less than Super.
Either way, it's a scam since diesel is a lot less expensive to make than gas, and has no fancy additives packages.. thank God it's 30% more efficient than gas.
