I wonder if it works on the 2-zone cars.. or just the 4-zone?
I'll have to try it tomorrow and report back.
I saw nothing about it in the owners manual.
thanks HOH.

The funtion works on mine, but never use it.....
The closest tunnel to me is nearly an hour away and can't remember the last time I used it.
Guess its one of the "little" things that makes these cars so damned expensive...

I use this more often than I ever thought I would. Every time I drive through the Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70 I hit the recirculation button and I make sure all is closed. I actually sometimes also drive with some windows a bit open and the sunroof cracked and this makes it very simple to close everything.
Also, this last summer, when I get in a hot car, I open everything and then after the A/C has done its job for a bit I then press this single button to get everything back to closed.
These are the little things that make a MB a MB, My uncles Lexus LS 430 doesn't have this, nor does any other car I have recently been in. Actually my uncle has been missing his 1999 BMW 740 IL, he likes the Lexus, but it is a bit too Vanilla.

Is this a one-touch feature? IE you press and hold the rec. button for say, three seconds and release or do you have to hold it down until all window and roof are completely closed?

I drive by a sewage treatment plant every day. In both of our Mercedes, I press the button and you would never know it was there - I can't imagine living without it. It is also great when driving behind diesel trucks.

The recerc button is what is recommended to use when entering a tunnel and when exiting it simply press and hold the button again and windows and sunroof will return to their prior postions.

OR maybe MBUSA wanted to hid it from us, since we Americans don't like techology and features like that in our cars

You have a filter button? Where? While I was waiting for my Feb05 build date E55 to arrive, I read on the forum that the charcoal filter had bit the dust along with the "rest" feature. I do have a recirc button.

I know that on the old W210s there was a button to turn on the filter, but it significantly reduced the blower speed.
As far as the "Tunnel" feature, you car has it! I think that you have misread the instructions or the posts.
All you have to do is have some windows and/or the sunroof open. Then with the key in the ignition or better yet, with the engine running, PRESS & HOLD!! the recirc button. After a few seconds of holding the button the windows will start to close. If you let go of the button it stops the process. After all is closed and the recirc button it lit, then you can press AND HOLD it again and it will open all the windows back to the position they were last. This also works on the 4-zone climate control head, I also think that is the only one that had an extra filter, but I might be wrong
I hope this helps, and tell us if it worked

Oh I know I have the tunnel mode. Look up a few posts. I said I have no charcoal filter button. I have the 4 zone (standard on the E55) and I assume there's some sort of filter working.

I just read some old posts from July of '04. Seems for '05 the filter may have been changed to a combined charcoal/pollen filter. The ability to turn it on and off was removed. Even reading the old posts, it seems no one was sure what truly became of the filter. My first service is next month. I guess I'll find out then.

As stated here before.... The 04 models are possibly the best of the E class cars out there... By the 04 model year MB worked out the few gremlins (electrical) the car had and the 04 shows absolutly no decontenting of any kind. If I were in the market for a used car, this year would be it. It was pure chance I ended up buying an 04, but glad I have it...
