Question Seat belt sensor(s) - driver and passenger

My '05 E320 4M has 3K miles on it and tonight while driving the seat belt light/bell came on. I rebuckled my belt, but it did not help. After I restarted the enginie everything was fine. But 30 minutes later (after another restart) it happened again. I leaned over and buckled the passenger seat (I was alone) and it stopped. Possible bad sensor? I did notice it happened after putting packages on the passenger floor next to the seat (coincidence). Any ideas/thoughts? Thanks!

Most likely the seat sensor needs to be adjusted/callibrated. No big deal for the dealer to do. Happened to my 05 also, when new last Feb.

Please Try a Search on This Topic

There are so many posts on this that I’d respectfully suggest you try a search. You’ll see everything from the sublime (the dealer replaced the seat) to the ridiculous (I think someone used a Dremel tool to cut apart their seatbelt).

At any rate, see the dealer about this and use the search tool as a basis for your discussions with him. The dealer can disable the chime altogether. But again, this really has been discussed. Good luck as this issue is a PITA for a lot of owners!

2005 E320
My car has been in twice for this issue. Fist time they replaced the sensor, second time they callibrated it. Now after several months it is chiming again. Just spoke to the dealership. They indicated that there is a new bulletin out and there is no permanent fix from available from Mercedes. The problem will keep reocurring. The suggested I plug in the passenger side seatbelt as a workaround.

The problem with that is that if you do actually have an accident, then the car will believe that there is a passenger and will fire the passenger side airbag and seatbelt pretensioner. I guess this doesn't really do any harm, but it does mean more bits have to be replaced as part of the repairs. I can't see why MB can't just make a reliable seat sensor, I mean how hard can it be?
