Pics of our E-Class *newbie*

I havn't really introduced myself here yet so "hi everyone ". Firstly, I'm 15, almost 16-years and am a HUGE Merc enthusiast. I have a dream of one day owning a carpetted garage with keys to all the AMG's on the market. Ahh dreams...

Below are pictures of my families Obsidian, E240 Avantgarde delivered August 24, 2004. It has the wonderfully brilliant Panoramic Sunroof, the Parameter Steering along with retro-fitted Parktronic.

We dead-set want a CLS350 however can't finance it after the **** valuation we got on our E-Class Maybe in the future we will get one...

Owning the E has been much like its depicted in the newspaper every week. It spends the majority of its life in the workshop getting something-or-rather fixed...its tested my love of Merc but I hasn't disrupted it. I love em' more than any other manufacturer! Ok enough of me talking, here are the pics:

Here is a gallery I have gotten these pics posted on:

Great pictures! However, we haven't had that kind of press in the US. Most of the US owners have had relatively few issues with their W211s. The press has taken the problems of a few and created sensational columns since the expectation of Mercedes Benz is to build perfect vehicles.

One of the latest misguided comments in the media this week was when the Insurance Institute issued their "Safest Cars" report. The list didn't include Mercedes or Volvo which prompted the reporters to speculate on the safety of these vehicles. The "Safest Cars" were only the ones that had completed the front, rear, and side impact tests. The Institute hadn't completed the side impact tests on Mercedes and Volvo as well as most other cars.

Sorry to hear that you have had issues with your W211. I hope that your dealer will repair your car so it will meet your expectations.

Jim

Nice photos and a beautiful car. Stay in school, do well, and work hard and I am sure you will have all those AMG's parked on carpet. There probably won't be any more bugs to be worked out by then. I haven't had any to speak of in mine.

Welcome. Sorry to hear of your poor experiences. Not all that common on the recent models. BTW, your dream sounds more like a fantasy!!!

Thanks guys. Again, i'm not the owner, im the young one here :p

Regarding the problems, in total, our car has spent 14 days in the shop (about 2/service). Thats about 7 A170's lol. Its ok though. I'm not the one whos dissapointed its my parents who are. Believe me it'll take more than a few problems to have me loose faith in Mercs. Love em to bits!!

I got a question: What does the "Rest" button on the A/C do exactly? I'v read the manual but don't entirely understand its purpose yet.

Greetings SL65AMG V12-

The purpose of the Rest feature is to circulate cool air through the passenger cabin for a brief period of time once the car is turned off. If you leave the car for a ten minute errand, for example, press the Rest button and residual cool air will circulate through the cabin despite the engine being turned off and the car unattended. I find this feature more helpful in the instance of cold weather, as just the opposite occurs. When it's cold outside and the heater has been working, pressing the Rest button will circulate warm air through the cabin while the car is unattended for up to about twenty minutes.

This is a nifty feature. My 2005 E320 was on of the last US models to offer this feature. I use it all of the time in the winter.

Take care, mate!

Jeff

Mercedes all the way!
well, 15/16 year olds are *in general* more knowledgeable than their parents about issues, especially with all the electronics :p

what problems have you had with the car? was something not working or just not working satisfactorily? it's been over a year since your family got the car - what issue can be so hard to work out?

anyway, great looking E - but must be hard to clean in that colour!

Off the top of my head:
The Panoramic Roof shade was rattling. I'v seen quite a few threads about it here especially in the C-Coupe. That problem was hard to find..
The folding rear seats rattled over bumps and so on..again difficult to find.
The shock absorbers were replaced because there was another noise over the bumps however the noise continued so we ended up putting it back into service and they are replacing the rear suspension as we speak. We get the car back tomorrow..
Also the A/C. Lots of threads about this one..On a hot day, we press Auto and then the fan goes really loud on high speed and then totally shuts down. Also had a rain sensor problem and had that replaced.

And out of all those problems, nothing was related to SBC surprisingly :p

Again, I don't care about the problems, my parents do. I love Mercs and it'll take far more issues than that to change my mind!

Yes, Obsidian is a nice nice colour but for 95% of the year, you can see every dust particle thats hit the car. For the other 5% after its been detailed (like in the pics), it looks stunning. The hardest thing to keep clean however are the wheels. They get covered in brake dust, a common problem with the Avantgarde spokes.

oh yes, i know that one *very* well lol. but at least you can just wipe it off with any wet cloth and it's gone for some time - unlike the body where right after cleaning, you can see more dust settling down :p and if you clean a little too roughly, swirls and sometimes even scratches are so clear.. it's a real headache keeping my S350 clean - have resorted to using a feather duster...

I had the same problem. Be sure the alternator/regulator, and battery module recalls have been done. Also they replaced a fan controller something or other which is located under the dash on our passenger side (twice) and it has never happened again. (It happened usually when the system or I made the fans go into the Max cool or heat speed. Something about the fans operating at that speed, and drawing that much current caused one of those items to shut the fans down.)

Thats another thing they changed that I can add to the list

...oh and I thought this car was developed and all in Germany rite? It should be able to handle Sydney's 22C winter mornings without these damn issues. I wonder if there is much diffrence if we were to have Thermotronic, you know the one with the digital readout.
