Tire replaced, two RECALLS processed

Had my car in to replace a broken rim (back end slid on ice into a curb and cracked one of my winter rims). Since it was in to swap my snow tires onto my stock rims I had them do the C service and put some paste on the brake pads which have been squealing when cold.

When they punched me up in the computer it came back with two recalls....never received any letters about them but remember the posting on the battery control module.

Anyway the two that were processed are:
Perform SBC Bracket Campaign #2005110001, parts are a cable harness and two brackets
Programming Battery Control Computer #2005060008, this is the one from August. Parts are a screw and control unit.

Recall campaigns require letters, service campaigns (which were performed) are done whenever you bring your car in for repair and/or service and don't require previous notification.

What is this one all about? I wonder if my March of 2004 E is affected.

Valid point. The girl at the counter used the word recalls, the header on the SBC bracket work section is RECALLS, the header on the battery work is PROGRAM BCM. C service section is headed MAINTENANCE. The SBC work sounds like a recall at least.

I believe that recalls are done mainly for safety issues where the repair is needed to avoid a serious mishap. Other "fixes" or replacement parts for non-safety issues can be issued without a recall, and without customer notification. For instance, my turn signal light on my C class went out. I replaced the bulb, but the light still did not work. I took it in to service, and they replaced the receptacle with a new/different one. They replaced both sides. I noticed on my invoice that this was replaced under a "service bulletin" or something similar to those words.

If you think about it, a customer notified recall must be expensive, since potentially every owner could bring their car in to be fixed. On an issue like the light receptacle noted above, it's only an issue when it stops working, and then it's replaced without charge.

I had my car in recently at a service clinic inspection event at my dealer. While I was there, they performed "Open Campaign--Battery CU." I have no idea what it was about, but they took care of it.
