Help Removing front console ash tray
Hey guys and gals
I have an 04 E320 4matic and I want to install Xm radio in it. I don't want to use a FM transmitter but rather use the "AUX audio in" that is located in the glove box. Basically I want to mount the reciever in the center ash trash in the front console and run a cable from the line out on the receiver to the aux input in the glove box. It seems very simple, and I know others have done it, but my main problem is that I want to remove the center ash tray to drill a hole to run the audio cable and power adapter, but I cant seem to do that. I do not want to just drill inside the car and risk hitting something. I have popped the center wood console around the shift knob to get easier access to the ash tray, but it has not helped. I have found one thread that has been helpful to me, but still I cant get the center ash tray out!

Thanks for any help you can offer

As I recall, the center console ashtray is held in place by two clips. If you've already removed the center wood console around the shift knob, you should be able to remove the ashtray by tugging upwardly from the bottom front with both hands. Once you hear the ~snap~, pull it out and unplug the cable.
It's not as complicated as it sounds, just yank it out the same as the shift knob console.
Hope this helps.
