Question regarding uninstall

I would like to have my 6-disc CD changer removed for a future project. The dealer wants to charge me 1hr labor just to deprogram the COMAND to not look for it. Does anyone know how long the software/programming takes for this? I seems all they would just plug into the car click a few button and it’s done? Of course I get that all the time and its never that easy.

Yes its quick BUT they purchased a very expensive computer/software to do this. Why should you object to the charge??

It's not the amount of the charge. I just wanted another opinion. I don't believe it’s a common request, and thus they wouldn't have a time/rate for that specific operation. It sounded like the dealer wasn't sure so they just threw out 1hr labor even if it only takes 5 min.

You are most likely correct. It will not take an hour and its most likely not a "book" time. It is reasonable to assume that they may have a minimum charge for any proceedure that uses the Star Diagnostic system. I also believe from a business standpoint that it is a reasonable charge considering the cost of the Star system.

Let us know what you finally learn. I too would like to remove the changer. I've never used it and would rather have the storage space.

Yea and all these people that want to use it for free!!! And, besides that they do not want the dealer to make any money selling them a car.
