Will your dealer turn off seatbelt chimes?

So my dealer out-and-out refused to disable the seatbelt chime, though not without some "checking with management." Between having to live through the bad weight sensor's pinging and the infuriating "don't forget key in the car you can't lock the keys in" bell, I'm just looking for peace and quiet.

I seem to recall that at least one person here had their dealer disable the seatbelt chime. I'm wondering how many of you have been able to have this done?

My question is, why would you want the dealer to do this?

They reluctantly agreed to do it if their passenger/seat-weight adjustments didn't work. But, they admitted it's a quick adjustment.

They might do it. I know Steve NL can do it for you. He turned off my "key in ignition" chime.

I won't lapse into a treatise on personal liberty and responsibility as I know some are want to do on this subject. I'll just say that there has already been one bulletin out for malfunctioning seat weight sensors that cause the system to think someone is there when they're really not.

It's a distraction. Anything that makes noise or flashes silly messages that aren't related to the imminent avoidance of some operational problem is, in my estimation counterproductive.

When I fly airplanes, I check whether my passengers a are wearing seat belts as a normal part of my routine. I do something similar in the car. I don't need annoying bells and whistles distracting me to tell me something I d already know.

Lastly, I should be able to decide, as a sentient being, whether I wear a seat belt or not. As we've learned with airbags, one size does NOT fit all, and there may be valid reasons for an individual not to wear one.

I have personally driven myself to the hospital when injured once. It was a very short trip, but I very well might not have been able to fasten the belt. I can only imagine what future vehicles will do if we don't wear our seat belt, play hopscotch in the right sequence, or if some sensor decides that the time's not right. We'll never be able to get out of the driveway.
