As far as I can tell, you are correct. There is no where that I can find on the MFD to enable this feature so that the seat moves back. Only the steering wheel moves up.

The synopsis from MB

1. The tweeter I said I could not find was not installed correctly. they said they found in in the bottom of the door and did not know how is passed inspection.

2. Key recognition has been deleted for 2006 from the E class even though it is stated on the webiste, along with the seat moving for easy entry. the tech at MB did not even know until they called because they asked me to bring the second key in so they could solve the issue.

3. transmission needs a new valve after 520 miles.....basically from the factory the transmission was downshifting hard and screwed up just as i read on the site. you would think they would proactivley fix this but well i guess not.

4. my steering wheel was not straight from the get go and they are adjusting that as well.

I guess I am disappointed. I have bought three new Nissans, a new VW Passat and a New Chevy Pick Up in the last 8-9 years and never had this type of trouble. Actually i bought an new pathfinder 2 moths ago and there are no such issues. Do not get me wrong the MB is was nicer but this is disappoiting. I am driving a Chevy the delaership gave me while I pay for a Benz....sounds like th euation is a bit off.

Anyhow that is it but that is enough -not me this weekend.

One last thing they also had trouble getting the car to me......

You'd think so! but MB does not operate like this.

The seat easy exit issue is pretty much common sense. Next time you get out of the car, see how much room is behind the driver seat. A parameter is set in the driver seat control module so that the seat will not move back beyond a certain point... think about if a passenger was seated behind you and the seat started to move back even further. ouch... However, the value can be adjusted using das.

i wish i did have good news. i have loved mb since the eighties when my brother had a brown convertible (not sure of the model), i even bought a 240d when i lived in phoenix because i liked MBs so much and at the time it was all i could afford.

my disappointment in this car is sad. i do not want to even go into how no one at the dealership even called me to say the car would not be ready or how they promised it one day and it was not finished or how they asked me to bring them the keys to test an option that was removed for 06 and they did not even know.

anyhow i have not been home to drive it since it got out of the shop but i am truly hoping for the best. as for good news i am going to the carribean on saturday!

BS..Exactly. I had the same issue last year with my MY04 E500, SA told me it can't go back any further because my seat is too far back. I knew it wasn't true because it did move back in the past. I insist it should move back so SA brought out a "master" technician in the shop. All he did was look at it and said he will take care of it.

In the afternoon when I pick up the car the feature was working fine again. I think they had to replace a memory module underneth the seat.

I had the same module replaced last year.... Ever since, the seat goes much further rearward than ever before.... About 3 inches from the back seat.
Now I just have to make sure the rear passenger gets out before me!!!!

This can be fix....

My seat wasn't move before too. It is because the driver seat control module set the stop point too short for me. Thus, I talked to Steve at MBenzNL while he was working mod on my car. Steve use his SD to moved this point 65cm further. Now, the seat move and I can crush anyone's leg if someone sit behind the driver seat when my seat moving.

Ok .....A few days a go I noticed that the seat would not go back when I took the key out of the ignition......It as allways been working ok.

So.......I went into the menu in the display.

It reads convienence.......OFF...STEERING WHEEL...STEERING WHEEL AND SEAT......You have these three options.

For the steering wheel to raise and the seat to go back the display should read (STEERING WHEEL & SEAT). I played around with these settings for a good hour and hellas I could not get the seat to go back even playing around with both keys.

So......Looking here on the threads many people have had the same problem and put this problem down to a bad memory control module.

I am lucky by only living two miles away from MB where I bought the car (2003 E 320 CDI) and I have a very good relationship with head technician ...oh by the way his name is David.

As I drove into the parking lot David was looking at another customers car,two minutes later he greated me and said whats the problem.

I explained that I could not get the drivers seat to go back when I took the key out of the ignition.......as this had been working fine since I had bought the car from new.

David checked first of all that the setting was set to (steering & seat) which it was.

NOW,S HERE THE TRICK.....CALLED RE-SYNCRONISE.

STEP 1. Menu.....key dependent must be OFF.

STEP 2. Exit the car lock the car.....If the windows are open or the roof is open keep you finger on key near the drivers side door handle this will close windows and roof.

Step 3. Wait one minute then open the car (KEEP FINGER ON KEY TO OPEN ALL WINDOWS & SUNROOF.

Step 4. GO BACK TO STEP 2 (close all windows and sunroof by the key method).

Step 5. Unlock enter the car (leave all windows and sunroof in the closed position.

Step 6. (MOST IMPORTANT).......THE LIMITS ALL MUST BE RESET.......BY...
moveing seat foreward to the end stop....then moving seat back to the end stop ( Do this several times as to re-sync the memory). This must be done with all doors, windows, sunroof CLOSED.

Step 7.Go into menu.......convienence ...set to steering & seat....them key dependment to ON you should now be able have different settings for each key.
IF YOU ARE A BIG GUY YOU MAY HAVE TO SIT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND LEAN OVER TO OPERATE THE SEAT MOVEMENT CONTROL AS NOT TO CRUSH YOURSELF AGAINST THE STEERING WHEEL.

David said that this prosedure may take several times to work and must be done if the battery as been disconected by any reason.

My battery as never been disconected.................It just lost it,s memory for some unknown reason.

So guys......it may be not a bad memory module as discribed in these forums but just wants a re-sync.

Dam mercedes modules.

Thanks for the info. I will try that if my easy entry/exit feature ever goes out of wack again. But if it loss memory more than twice I would insist replacing the module no matter what the SA tells me.

06 does not have that option, there is only ne category for easy entry and that controls the steering wheel.
