Front license frame

Hi, this is my first post on this forum as I just got my wife an iridium silver 06 E350 4Matic last December. So far we've been loving the car and the solid feel that it brings to the driver and passengers. I was just wondering if the 211s come with a body colored front license frame because the dealer installed their own black one with their name?

Thanks

With their name, do you mean a plate frame? A MB black mount is delivered with every vehicle. Off hand I do not remember if I’ve seen any body colored mounts here on the forum but I recently saw MB mud guards that were body colored – nice touch by the way. Admitting I do not know the standard practices of dealers in states where front plates are required I would ask the dealer to match your current, or MB supplied black mount to the body color as a goodwill gesture. Might, in fact, be a good marketing suggestion for them to differentiate their vehicles from the other dealers in your area? If they refuse, and it means that much to you simply check out secondary sources – shouldn’t be that expensive. Search around the forum to see what others have installed.

My '03 in Desert Silver came with a color-matched front plate frame. Based on previous theads on this subject, M-B changed from color-matched frames to black-only sometime during the '04 or '05 model year. I don't know if color-matched frames are even available any more - unless, that is, the car is black.

I'm talking about the plastic frames that are shaped to fit the front bumper. If the dealer just attached a cheesy rectangular metal frame with its name on it, I would demand at least the shaped black plastic frame and then, like konistiger suggests, ask them to paint it to match the body color.

My car came with a body color matched front license plate mount. I think now they are all black. The license plate frame is separate item & not an MB OEM part.

I am only posting this so that I can become a Fanatic by hitting my post number 1000!

No, really, I have a 2004 Mercedes (March or April of 2004 build date) and I have a black license plate holder. I have a white car, but it still looks OK. I hate the fact that Colorado is one of the 5 US States that requires front plates. I really liked the fact that Florida did not require front plates so I could put my Euro plates on. It always looked great to have a German car with a German plate.

License plate frame

Thanks for the responses. It seems like I have to look for a simple aftermarket black or silver license plate frame. The black frame with the dealer's name just looks so tacky. If only I can remove the front plates completely here in Massachusetts. Oh well..

Very nice license plate frame

What do you think of this license plate frame? Is it worth the money?

Becart frame

I purchased a Becart license plate frame for my SLK350 last year. It's definitely worth a $100. These are very limited production and they are a work of art.

Mercedes ship the car with the front plate bracket in the trunk. For those states that require a front license plate, the dealer is supposed to mount the bracket. If you live in a state that does not require a front license plate, your dealer should not have mounted it. It looks much better w/o it and to mount it he had to drill holes in your front bumper. I'd be really po'd if my dealer did it.

My car came with the black mounting plate in the trunk and no holes in the bumper. If you do a Euro Delivery you will have the front bracket mounted.

Bought my E320 in Florida and live in Ohio. I have not put a plate on it yet because it looks so nice without it. Haven't been pulled over yet. If I do, I'll just tell them I have a new bumper on order to replace the Florida non plate bumper. It's being shipped from Germany officer, should be here in a few weeks.

One of the MAJOR advantages of moving from CA, to AZ has been the dreaded front plate! Man I don't know if I could live with myself if I had to blemish that front!

Nice Car

I added the chrome detail rings around the headlights and fog lights. I like the look. On my 2002 S Class, I missed the small MB badge that was centered on the top of the grill work, so I ordered a C class badge from a couple of years ago and installed it. I might do the same for my 05 E Class. I did notice that the pix of the 07 S Class, show that the badge was re-instated, along with the existing Tri-Star on the hood. My old 240D, has the badge centered at the top of the grill. I think the grill is incomplete without the badge.

Nevada has a good law...

I just learned about the Nevada DMV rules on front plates. I had been sweating a cop stopping me and telling me to get a front plate. Like you I could not stand to drill a hole in the front bumper. But I now know that in Nevada if there is not a "factory location" for the front plate in the grill area, then a front plate is not required. My '03 W211 never had one and my S430 doesn't either...so I am legal

MB did (or didn't) a very poor job designing a front plate frame. They all look very tacky even it's body colored.

I was in BMW dealr yesterday to check out the new M5, and couldn't help noticing every bimmer has very nicely designed front plate frame (body colored on higher end models).

Well, if you don't need it, you don't even have it (or shouldn't). Otherwise it will be covered by the license plate. I'd much rather have my plain bumper than ANY kind of bracket that isn't needed.

You can have a plain bummper if you want on a bimmer. From past experiance, you can replace the factory BMW front plate frame with a body colored bumper strip if you wish. No drilled holes exposed and no one will know if it was even there before.

Well, the point I am getting is MB should've designed a better looking license frame on their cars for people who are required by law to put on the front plate.
