Is that a picture of your radio? Looks just like the one in my '03, complete with cassette player.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but there is no way to have navigation with that audio unit. For starters, the display is too small, not to mention the lack of the necessary COMAND internals. Somebody like Steve would have to do a major electronics transplant to enable navigation, although it's certainly possible if you want to spend the money and can find somebody to do it.

that IS an APS50 navigation unit indeed...it requires a NAV disc in the slot of the unit itself in order to be able to navigate...wether that disc is available for yor area is something I doubt though...
This type of navigation does not display a map on teh screen (which is why the screen is small)...
to DWP: the US spec 2003s came equiped withan AUDIO50 which is an APS50 in which navigation has been disabled and the 2 nav related buttons have been swapped for blank buttons.
greetingz,

greetingz,
Is this disc available for the US market? If so, how does it work? Is there a "voice" which will tell me when to turn, etc? Do you sell this disk?
Thanks

Well, the only APS50 navigation disc I could find on EBay was in the UK, and seemed to be for Europe (somebody was also selling a disc of what seemed to be US "update" software/firmware for the APS50. Probably an obsolete version that some M-B tech was selling out the back door).
So, based on Steve's information, it seems that when it came time to introduce the W211 to the North American market in '02, M-B had a problem. Their graphical nav system wasn't ready to go, but they still had to install an audio system in the cars. Solution? Grab the head unit with text-and-voice navigation used on the world market, cripple and hide the navigation features, and install the rest. M-B probably figured, with good reason, that they would be ridiculed for offering navigation with only text and voice, no pretty pictures, in the North American market.

MB probably did that as that was the top-of-the-line unit that was available in the beginning...
