You mean, it does crank, but sometimes it doesn't start right away? Well, my first idea would be to post your question in the M-Class forum, but since the ML320 ignition and fuel system isn't all that different from an E320, maybe somebody here has an answer. I don't.

Common problem, same thing happened to me...CPS (crankshaft position sensor).

Since you have an ML320, I imagine that it is an older one and some did have a couple of stupid issues. There might be something totally different that is wrong with yours, but here is my guess:

Some early MLs had ignition issues where they would be hard to start, or they would start, but then stall right away.

*If it starts and then immediately stalled, one troubleshooting procedure was to take the key out, flip the key 180 degrees and then insert it again and give it a try. If the car worked, the problem is the key/tumbler. I cannot remember exactly what it was, but it is something with the theft deterrent. Sometimes a new key is all you need.

No E320 after 1998 can be compared to the ML since they had a "smartkey" after 1988 and the ML320s did not. The smartkey is a totally different ignition system than the ML of that vintage.

I hope this helps, but I would be willing to bet you that the ML320 forum will tell you immediately what it up.

ML320 is a W163, not a W211!

Have the codes checked at an indie shop that works on Mercedes. My guess its the CPS or and bad battery cable not at where it connects.
