Another new engine on the way

Please see attached information from Germancarfans re a new 350 engine in the CLS. This surely must be destined for the E. Let's hope it's had plenty of testing!!!!

I think the E Class could get this engine with its impending face lift at end of this year. 292 bhp on a 3.5L V6 CGI, and yet FC is excellent.

Also, torque of 310Nm at 1.5K rpm and peak of 365Nm from 3K rpm! Wow!

Mercedes all the way!
very, very nice. but i wonder why so soon - the 350 engine isn't exactly old.

why is it that we have not seen more common rail direct injection petrols? is there something in the design that makes them inherently more suitable for diesels? (sorry, zero knowledge of engine technology).

Very cool. Is my math right and it gets around 30MPG combined (9.1-9.3 l/100KM)??

Nice look. Very clean. You made a good choice with the single tip.

Really, it's about time. With Nissan Maximas running at 265hp and Mazda 6 and Subarus all over 250hp, this is long over due. Going from 320 to 350 was barely keeping ahead of the pack.

My Calc's.

CLS350 CGI: 9.1 to 9.3 l/100 km (25.2 to 25.8 mpg)
CLS350: 10.1 l/100 km (28.6 mpg) From MB France website.

The CGI gets about 12% and 3 mpg more than the CLS350.

The E350 gets 19 - 27 mpg, delivers 272 hp
So an E350 CDG might get 21 - 30 mpg while delivering 295 hp.

8% more hp using 12% less gas, not bad!!

But it requires sulphur free gas? Hmmm, might be a problem in implementing world wide for a while...
