BUYing a PRe-OWNed Car check-list:

What things should one to check when buying a 40-60K 03-04 E-class ?

Let me explain how I am screening as I am in the market :

I check how the engine sounds on startup, if you have a well-maintained engine you can tell because its got good pickup, smooth, and quiet. If you get a used car with a weak engine, it will only go downhill from there. Made that mistake already.

Next is the steering. Make sure its handling is sharp.

Next, try to go through the records, carfax, or dealer records, there are service checkups and corresponding documentation.

Check service records and Carfax. If the car has had more than one owner, if it was a lease car, if it was owned by a business, if it's been in an accident, if it came from out of state, if it's dirty under the hood, if there are non-OEM parts to be seen, if it's been serviced by anyone but the owner, a good Indy or a dealer then walk away.

You should try to find a local car that is privately owned or talk to local Used Car Managers and tell them what you are looking for.

You aren't going to find your kind of car sitting on used car lots.
