2005 E320 low Beam Replacement

Sorry if this is old hat....
I have looked through many, many postings regarding the replacement of the lowbeam (halogen) bulb, but what I have seen seems to be for older models.

My 2005 owner's manual is 99% worthless in terms of describing the correct technique -- it has no photos or diagrams. The manual states (1) remove black cap, (2) detach wires, (3) remove some sort of retaining clip, and (4) remove bulb.

None of the discussions/descriptions that I have seen have described this sequence or all of these parts (esp. the retaining clip). The bulb housing is a bear to get at (I am trying to replace the LEFT bulb, as seen from the driver's seat).

Would really appreciate any assistance/photos/diagrams. Thanks!
Hermann

Hey, I had the same problem trying to put some blue bulbs into my 03 E320. Actually it is pretty simple, unscrew the plastic cap directly behind the beam and twist the bulb connector part to pull it out. It is a tight working area so your likely to get scratches, but I don't think much can be done about that.

It is easy

Hermann,
Macross811 is right -- it is very easy. The passenger side is tight to work on, but the driver's side is worse with the collant recovery bottle there. Also, make sure you wear some of those rubber medical exam gloves -- there's no way you can change those bulbs without having your skin touch the bulb.

Regards,
Paul...

I don't know how anyone can say it is easy. There is so space for any man to put their arm in to twist the socket out. You have to have the skinniest forearm to work on the driver side with the coolant reservoir blocking the way and you have to be left handed from the way the light bulb socket needs to be twisted. The passenger side is a little easier. Also, with the socket wire so short, you have to change the darn light bulb 5 inches from the darn hole. You have to remove and plug the light bulb in the socket with one hand since there is no room for 2 hands. Who said it is easy?
