This is interesting.

Possible with USA versions?

(Yes I know I don't need it.)

When I had my car in for service to have the VC module replaced, they upgraded the software in my Command head unit at the same time due to issues I was having with the screen. The service tech told me I now had the ability to play MP3's. He was right, so software will give you that option, mine is a 2004 so not sure it applies to all models and honestly all I listen to is Sat.

mbserb, I have a 2003 E320 replacement car, after switching from US to Euro Comand using the 3-5-7 trick, Steve at Mbenzl upgraded it to allow for DVD-In-Motion, as a side benefit it added MP3 functionality for the single disc slot on either DVD or CD media.

2003 E320, looking to buy a Black 03 ML500
I just had my Radio software updated for AM reception. I read this thread and tried a mp3 CD in the car and it works!

By reading this thread, I'm guessing that the 2003 would not play mps's. If this info helps, I have a mid 2003 build car.

Thanks and I must say that this is the most active and helpful board out there on our cars! Keep up the great work!

So all you who don't have MP3 capability and want it and have a mid 2003 or later, request a service appt to get your command software upgraded and you'll have the MP3 playback. This forum no doubt has lots of useful information and one can learn more about there car on the forum than reading the owners manual.

I also got a 2003 replacement car and have dvd in motion after using the 347 trick. I would love to have mp3 and satelite radio capability but I'm afraid that I'll lose my dvd playing capability if I get a software upgrade. Does anybody know if this is true?

The item being sold is something that all dealerships should have. The flash upgrade should only work on 'older' 211's. I can never get my head around US dating so I will merely say that vehicles built late 2004 onwards should have Mp3 playing as standard IF they have full COMAND. (we only have COMAND with navigation function so I cannot comment on something we do not have)

I have heard rumours that the very latest versions cannot play Mp3's but at present it is simply that.
