2005 E-500 Brake Question

I did a search but couldn't find exactly waht I was looking for so I thought I would ask.

Have the above car and I notice sometimes the brakes pulse. Will happen at random times. But, usually when I am holding down the brakes (like at a light) and then let off the brakes and then put on the brakes again. Usually when I do this I notice a little vibration out of them and I hear a pump under the hood.

I took it to the dealership and they say this is normal. Is that right?

Also read about someone that had a pulsation damper put on there and bled the brakes and it helped.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so do you just live with it or have you been able to get it fixed?

Thanks for the input.

This noise is normal and happens during pressure buildup from the SBC system. There was a bulletin which installed pulsation damper part #A203 431 04 77 however this was only up to MAR03 production (P-B-42.46/27c DEC03).

BTW, the following recall campaigns might apply to your particular vehicle. Normally the dealer would automatically check nevertheless:

- Recall 2004050014 OCT04 Programming SBC Hydraulic Unit
- Recall 2005110001 JAN06 Installation of Ground Wires & Bracket to SBC Harness
- Service Campaign 2005070017 FEB06 Inspect Alternator, Replace Regulator if Necessary
- Service Campaign 2005060008 JAN06 Programming Battery Control Module

DWP - Funny. The dealership is actually pretty cool though. It is a new A-Rod dealership and they are trying to go above and beyond.

konigstiger - thanks for the feedback. The first recall is the only one that appears to deal with the brakes and it would not apply as my car was built after that. I will have the dealer check on the other things.

Guess I am just going to live with it. Seems a little weird that such a car would do that though.

Phoenix Motors installed the pulsation damper on my 04/04 build E320. I don't remember what I complained about but I wanted that change so they would have to change the brake fluid.

I also had the damper kit installed on my ride.... Although it wasn't that bad to start with, I decided to ask for it when I read about it here and now I'm happy I had it installed (free of coarse).... Made a big difference although in just the right conditions or by continuosly pumping the brakes I'll still feel / hear it. Good luck.

OK, I understand these brakes are just going to pulsate and act up. But, I think mine is excessive. They really start pulsating and acting up about every 5-6 times I push down the brake pedal. Does everybody's act up this much?

Dealership still tells me it is normal and they can't do anythign about it. I mention the pulsation dampner some others mentioned and the dealership knew nothing of this.

Also, since I picked it up from the dealership, on top of the pulsating thing that annoys the **** out of me, the brakes now also make a noise as soon as you push down the pedal that sounds like a goose quacking. Almost sounds like there is air in the brake lines or it is low on brake fluid but I doubt it is something that simple. But, it is really annoying.

Anybody have any experiences like this so I can instruct the dealership what to do to fix my car?
