Reaching 50k, Need extended warranty help

I know i know you guys have all discussed this over n over again, but i couldn't really find any hard facts on it when i did the search. So here it goes, i'm @49300 right now,
-my local mercedes dealer is offering about $2400 with 100 deductable
-warranty direct $2300 with 0 deductable, $2100 with 100 deductable
and couple other are about the same range, what do you guys think? have any of you like one company over other? and is this the right price range. All of these aren't full coverage, direct warranty offers $3900 with 0 deductable for same bumper to bumper that we have now.

Need help fast, moving to Chicago next week and i want to take my car with me, but i'm bound to go over 50k, and then pay more for warranty.

While Warranty Direct (I'm assuming that's the company you mean) offers great warranties, they do not offer a coverage that is "the same" as the manufactures warranty. You will not find this offered at any company. They all have either a list of things that they will cover, or a list of things that they will not. You need to read the find print. Also, they normally only pay for what they determine to be "reasonable" costs to repair your car.

By the way, the Secure+ that you quoted has the following exclusions:

Battery; shock absorbers; manual transmission clutch assembly; friction clutch disc & pressure plate; throw out bearing; manual and hydraulic linkages; GPS/navigation systems; safety restraint systems; glass; lenses; sealed beams; bulbs; brake rotors & drums; TV/video/game systems; weather strips; exterior body parts/ornamentation; paint; upholstery & carpet; tires; wheels/rims; phone systems; exhaust and emissions systems.

(Unless optional Emissions coverage has been purchased and indicated on membership card. See below for coverage)

Maintenance services and parts described in your vehicle's owner's manual as supplied by the manufacturer. (i.e. oil changes, tune-ups, brake pads, belts, hoses and spark plugs)

Ok, with that said, you need to figure out how many miles you average per year. Looking at your profile, you have a 2003 which is now at almost 50k. So lets say you've had the car about 3.5 years which means you average about 14,300 miles per year. That means over the next 4 years, your car will get up to 107,200 miles. None of the warranties will cover the car that long. So a 75,000 mile coverage will last you only about 1.7 years, and a 100,000 mile policy will last you about 3.5 years.

Based on this info, I would say your best coverage for the "Major Care" would be the 4/100k (you pick if you want the deductible; you'd save 250 up front and would be able to make 2 warranty claims and still come out ahead).

On the "Secure +" plan either the 3/100 or the 4/100. The 4/100 would last you 6 months longer (3.5 yrs) and cost you 65 more (with 200 deductible). I would pay the 65 more for the 4/100.

As for the choice between the two plan types, only you can make that decision. The Secure+ plan will cost you 970 more so you have to see if the additional coverage is worth it. Only you can make that decision based on how you access the risk.

i'm leaning towards "MajorCare" with $100 deductable for about $2100, which would give me 4yr/100k. I think that would give me enuf coverage to last.

Secure+ is about $1600 more then "MajorCare". Things that you mentioned aren't covered partly consist of normal wear n tear.

But do you guys know of any other company that anybody has dealt with and came across any issues. That would help me alot. i'm going to call couple other companies to see what they offer, but untill i get any first hand experience it would be very tough.

for those who bought the Warranty Direct policy, have anyone had a chance to use it (not like you would be looking forward to it)... I'm shopping for a W211 and one of my biggest concerns is buying an extended warranty for it...

Warranty Direct seems to have pretty good rates, but I don't know anyone who has any experience with them.

any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Warranty stuff

Personally I would not consider a warranty that does not cover GPS/Navigation, sound system, electronics and components of the Airmatic and SBC system. It seems most issues on this board are related to shocks, struts, suspension and the SBC system.

as defined by Warranty Direct, here are their exclusions:

Carburetor; battery; shock absorbers; manual transmission clutch assembly; friction clutch disc and pressure plate; throw out bearing; manual and hydraulic linkages; distributor cap and rotor; safety restraint systems; glass; lenses; sealed beams; light bulbs; brake rotors and drums; exhaust and emission systems; weather strips; trim; moldings; bright metal; chrome; upholstery and carpet; paint; outside ornamentation; bumpers; body sheet metal and panels; tires; wheels/rims; GPS navigation systems; phone systems and TV/video/entertainment systems.

I don't plan on getting a car with Nav, so I'm not all that concerned. I don't see anything about exclusions pertaining to the Airmatic or SBC system...

However, one concern I do have after reading their site:

California MBI coverage statement:

We will pay the licensed repair facility of your choice for the reasonable cost to repair or replace any part of your vehicle where a failure has occurred, except for those items listed in the exclusions section.

Dealer cost is not exactly the same as Reasonable cost.

I dont know how those aftermarket warranties are over there, but I know that for the most part when I work on the cars over here with aftermarket warranties they are such a ***** to deal with, most of them will only cover electrical issues, doesnt really matter who you go with, benz extended warranty is pretty good.
One thing ive noticed with aftermarket warranties is I usually have cars sitting for 4 or 5 days before the warranty company decides to cover something, so also take into consideration how much down time you are willing to have while your car is in for repairs.

If the aftermarket doesnt cover, sbc, airmatic, abc, command/dvd/nav, a/c work
dont get it, those things will cost you a fortune....

This was my point exactly. I did a bunch of research on warranties and I have a PDF document of a warranty I found that covers pretty much everything including GPS/Audio (even if you don't have navigation, you will still have the command screen module for audio which is expensive), and more importantly Airmatic (they list is as Adaptive Suspension), and electronic breaking. My advice is if you are going to spend several thousand dollars to get a warranty, get the best that covers everything. Very carefully read the fine print. Better you find out now than when you've spent a bunch of money on a warranty and end up having to cover a repair.

If you want the PDF, send me a personal message and I'll email it to you so you at least have a baseline to compare whatever you find.
