2005110001 JAN06 (original release DEC05) Installation of ground wires and bracket to SBC wiring harness - SBC may shift to the hydraulic back up mode due to the loosening of the ground wire harness connection over time.
Should be well known by now.

Most dealerships should pull a VMI everytime you come into service, which would tell them what was and was not open on your car. I know you do not know me, but you can call me or e-mail me I'll check to see if your car is actually in the VIN range...

Could this have been the cause for the few brake failures that have been reported here???? I'll probably wait till my next service (2500 miles) to have it done.

Safety Recall #2005-110001
April, 2006
Dear Mercedes-Benz Owner,
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. WE SENT YOU THIS NOTICE BECAUSE WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR SAFETY.
DaimlerChrysler AG (DCAG), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain Model Year 2003 - 2005 E-Class, 2003 - 2005 SL-Class, and 2006 CLS-Class vehicles equipped with Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC). Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) therefore has initiated a recall of these vehicles. Our records indicate that your vehicle is included in the affected population of vehicles.
The SBC brake system in certain E-Class, SL-Class and CLS vehicles, in certain instances, may shift to the hydraulic back up mode due to a loosening of the ground wire harness connection over time. In the hydraulic back up mode, the driver has braking power sufficient to stop the vehicle, although greater brake pedal pressure is required and the brake pedal travel will be noticeably longer which could lead to a vehicle crash.
Your authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer has available a bracket and replacement ground wire that it will install on your vehicle's SBC pump unit to correct the situation described above by preventing loosening of the new ground wire harness connection. This service will be provided free of charge. The working time required is approximately 1 hour. As a matter of normal service process, your authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will also check for other repair measures which might be applicable to your vehicle and this may increase the required working time. Please contact your authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer for additional information and to schedule an appointment at your earliest convenience. Please mention Recall Campaign #2005-110001.
If you are no longer the vehicle owner, or have a change of address, please complete the reverse side of this letter and return the complete letter in the enclosed envelope. If this is a leased vehicle and the lessor and registered owner receive this notice, please forward this information by first class mail to the lessee. If you have paid to have this recall condition corrected prior to this notice you may be eligible to receive reimbursement. Please see the reverse side of this notice for details.
Please contact your authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer should you have any questions or encounter any difficulty regarding this recall. If your dealer is unable to remedy your situation please contact us at 1-J800) FOR-MERCedes (1-800-367-6372).
If an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer or Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC, fails or is unable to perform this service without charge within 60 days, pursuant to law 49 U.S.C. Chapter 301, you may submit a complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 400 Seventh Street, S.W., Washington, D.C. 20590 or call the toll-free Auto Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.safercar.gov.
Hope this is helpful.

If it's the same thing I'm thinking about, I had this done a long time ago. I pay attention to Konigtiger's Info and when he speaks, I head for the dealer

Once again, exact SAME recall dating back to DEC05 and updated JAN06 for work instructions. VMI has most likely completed the first round of VINs actually listed in the recall bulletin and is now notifying the remaining VINs. I’m assuming they did this as to not overwhelm dealer service centers and parts availability. Puzzling how MBUSA does things given the ramifications (i.e.: failures reported here on the forum) nevertheless it is what it is.

Make sense to me.... Thanks Bro.
Guess if MB felt it was a serious matter then they would have had all the cars in at once and screw the dealers....

The only thing that pisses me off, is I showed BOTH dealers I bought the W211's from the bracket and read to them the operative words of the recall and asked them to apply the fix to my car and my mom's and both insisted that our VIN's were not included and not effected.. the Scottsdale dealer even brought out the shop foreman who made up some BS about the bracket being different now and my car not needing it... low and behold, magically now it seems to need it! ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Going in for the 13K service in a couple of weeks where I'll get it done.. gotta figure out when I can get my mom's in! As my next visit to the bay area isn't till June and she's helpless at the dealer!
